  1. Eye Candy. Without depth of substance, that is the only thing left. Gives people something kewl to look at and fiddle with to distract from the flaws and limitation od the original product. No offense to the community of modders out there, as there is some very wonderful work out there. I'm just stating things as I see and have experienced them with this title. Don't know how it'll run on a newer Dual-Core rig, but the LUA script it was written in requires a Cray to run entirely smooth. They bit off too much IMO when they used a new script in conjuction with the heavy eye candy. The AI falls far short of the mark and you have to buy an add-on that wasn't originally intended for the western markets to get the fixes to some of the more prevelant of the bugs after the second (free) patch.
  2. Saitek to show Rudder Pedals at E3

Didn't see where these exerpt from a Saitek UK Tech support guy were mentioned above. Perhaps that is why I linked it in the first place. Maybe I'll just pass the info along anyway. ******************************** Like most of our products, you're looking at Autumn-time for them to be available in stores/online. In the US, it's possible that they'll be available by the end of the Summer. _________________ Best Regards Richard Neville Tech Support Saitek UK

  4. The State of Flight Sims today?

LOMAC is very graphic orientated. Unfortunately it is severely lacking in multiplayer stability and you have to buy an add-on to get the fixes. Microprose's F-117 Stealth was one of the best in immersion. Not very pretty by recent standards, but a great sim. Those were the days.
  5. The State of Flight Sims today?

The community mods and add-ons are okay to an extent. However if the core program is knackered or requires a CRAY to get the advertised performance, why bother with the community stuff. i'm not down on community offerings, really. I'd just like to buy a product that is solid in performance and such first off. The goodies can come later. F-117 Stealth was a kicka$$ product that had loads of immersion. Sure it wasn't pretty but you could dance all night long and not feel robbed. Can't say that for most of the recent offerings.
  6. Lego Aircraft Carrier

Got myself the Mega-Blocks A-10 for xmas. Only took 1.5 hours out of my midnight shift, though. $20 off of eBay.
  7. A RC video that you HAVE to see to believe!!!

Lots more video of all kinds here: http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos.php?action=view&id=52 http://www.flightlevel350.com/
  8. Video Card Advice

You would probably want the X1800 out of whatyou have listed. The 7800 is older generation ATi by 2 and dual 6600's wouldn't get you optimum bang per buck. You'll get bang, but not for the bucks spent when you could get the X1800. Just my $0.02.
  9. The State of Flight Sims today?

ALF, Microsofts FlightSim series is interface-able with ATC Simulator. Other than that, I don't know of any. Jane's had a wild ambition some years ago. They intended to Eventually have available "Jane's World War". A place where you and some friends could get together and combine for example, F-15, Longbow and M1 Abrams. The technology wsn't quite there at the time and now Jane's has gone away. The technology is available IMO now, but the coding gurus haven't met the curve. Nor have they even bothered, it seems. I suppose you can't get something like that done, unless there is genuine intrest from the developers side. They are having too many problems with dishing out probematic software that doesn't run right, much less care enough to get it right prior to release, to be that ambitious. I would very much prefer they get their heads out of their fourth point of contact and release good, stable, immersive software. Then do it without infecting your system with a covert form of 'copy protectio' that only benefits them for a short time. It is also my opinion that if resourses were available, they would be in more of a position to dream bigger. The facts are more likely that to get that kind of capital, they have to go to bed with a BIG publisher. After that has been done, they (the developers) are force fed a time table and bent over a barrel to meet that schedule. That lead to the current environment of crappy, unstable, buggy software. But the publishers don't care, they already got your money. You bought into the hype and marketing, and they got your money. You got a not so good product, and little to no product support. After all, they took your money and are now on to their next project. Lotto or Powerball may solve this, but might isn't much to be invested in. We can only hope it gets better, but that remains to be seen.

  11. For everyone

Whether the holiday you and your families celebrates is Hanukah, Kwanza, Christmas, Festivus or just New Years, I would like to take this opportunity to wish one and all a safe and happy holiday season. Happy Holidays!!
  12. Not really a case mod but...

Could you describe it's functions for those not very familiar with the CH products? The row of toggles, are they momentaries, or pure toggles? How did you wire them? What do you use them for? How did you do it? Your initial post starting this thread is a bit vague, no offense.
  13. Press the "K" key. The manuver will be performed automatically (v1.02 don't know if it will be the same for FC, some key commands got changed in FC).
  14. Here is the announcement from the Ubi forum: http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=...606&m=456100123 FINALLY, I get an opportunity to fly another bent-winged bird. The F4U Corsair has got to be in this one (I hope, I hope, I hope). But either way, with all the support and mods that came along for IL-2, this one can be just as good!
  15. First saw that over a year ago, it's a little on the old side. Still amusing, just not new.
  16. ??????? Is it out? Who are the developers? Who is publishing it? How many aircraft are flyable? Is there a DC? Does it support MP? Will I need a CRAY to run it (like another sim), or is the engine based on something more stable and reliable? ???????????? I don't mean to pee in your punch, but a little more than just "Welcome" may have been in order here. No disrespect intended, maybe just a link or something.
  17. No new CBA

http://www.nhlcbanews.com/ The numbers are just not where the NHLPA thinks they are. Unfortunately, it seems that unless the NHLPA changes it's definition of terms (in particularly how THEY define 'salary cap') there will be no more hockey. The league tendered 6 proposals, the NHLPA none. 20 of the 30 franchises lost money last season. The owners and board of directors voted, begrudgingly, to not have a season until the economic system the league operates under gets revamped into a 21st century model. With continued bancruptcy and other problems, they just do not want to continue in that economic environment. It comes down to a lock out. :(
  18. PC to Phone calling.

Vonage also provides phone service via PC over broadband. Vonage.com could answer some of your questions. I don't know if it is nation wide yet, but I do know they are expanding service. It is a pay thing, not free. A guy at work has it and swears by it. Voice quality is crystal clear.

  22. My Computer

As far as a CPU heatsink goes, have you considered this: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/cpu-tri-12.html I have one on my P4 2.4 Northwood, I got it in anticipation of getting a 3.2 Prescott. Park a 120mm fan on it and my CPU temps (using MBM5, MotherBoard Monitor 5 a free utility) have gone from 58-64 under load(with the stock heatsink), to 46-54 under load. You can read more about it on the Thermalright website. 5 heatpipes!!!
