Hmmm, this is from the Society of WWI Sim Artisans (SWWIA website), who do extensive mods for RB3D: " Nieuport 28. Loosing the competition with the SPADs, the 28 was used as a stopgap aircraft by American pursuit squadrons when they first arrived in France. Fast and manueverable, it was also fragile, with a tendency to shed fabric from the top wing in a dive. It saw limited action and was soon replaced by SPAD XIIIs. " This is how its modelled in RB3D and in OFF (for N17, similar maybe?). Who knows really I guess, but any plane that lost a wing pulling up from a dive could probably lose it in a dive as well. Maybe both are right.

I generally fly in hard mode, seems far more satisfying for me, but find some aircraft are jerky/twitchy when rolling... the roll happens very quickly and if I'm flipping from one side to the other quickly I lose control. I know, I know it is hard mode but ithe rolling does seem, well, twitchy...so I tend to avoid flying those planes, though they are among my favourites from the era. It only happens to some aircraft - SE5a in the Thirdwire models, Camel from the ATeam and a few others. I know that the Camel FM has been designed for normal mode, but some aircraft like the Bristol and DH2 seem fine in Hard, and I believe Charles helped with the latter FM, and their other planes seem pretty good generally and doing rolls in Hard Mode. Is it my joystick settings, joystick itself or just me???? I've tried changing things without succes. Or are there some tips for tweaking the FM. I am a little familar with the data ini files, so pointing me in the right direction to experiment if necessary is ok. I haven't changed the original data files yet, as it seems quite hard getting it right to fly in Hard - maybe it is all too difficult??? Thanks in advance.

Frame rate Graphics vs Game - which to monitor

Interesting, haven't seen this in other games, certainly useful. A nice feature. Thanks for the clarification. -
Frame rate Graphics vs Game - which to monitor
peter01 replied to Bluzman's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Well, finally found the little sucker, its Alt+D in FE, maybe it was K in the other TW games? And its not in the manual. Have to look in the in game control section now to see what else I couldn't do before!!! Bluzman, the graphics rate (the first number) is exactly what my third party fps counter shows, so its the standard FPS as I described. No idea what the game one is, hopefully someone can help. I'd be interested to know as well... tank03, thanks for the tip and help. It does may a big difference. But I generally play on near/medium distance, as the far one in comparison is still comparatively costly fps wise. But I can now get about an average 30 to 40 fps on Far with your settings for a simple mission, better than before, so I am sure it will help others. Cheers.... -

Frame rate Graphics vs Game - which to monitor
peter01 replied to Bluzman's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Not sure what you mean by the two rates. But, generally people speak about FPS or Frames Per Second. To get a smooth game play in flight sims you shouldn't drop below 20fps - it becomes a slideshow. Ideally it would be running at 30 plus all the time, but nearly EVERYONE has to make compromises unless they have the latest most expensive hardware. So play around with-in game graphics settings to get somrething that suits you aiming for a minium of 20-30 fps (try it with a test mission with few aircraft in the air close to the ground, with some clouds etc). Of course if you can't get an acceptable fps, there are many ways to tweak either your graphic card settings and/or the game files. All the best........ -
This is another post that goes into more detail on the gunangles at the Thirdwire site, from The Wrench (so its not x,y,z as I initially said!! but rather left, up and down, right): Don't know what the actual 'convergencent point ' distance is, but the angle can be adjusted in the data ini. See below, you adjus the "AimAngles=" [internalGun1] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=7.92MM_SPANDAU_LMG08/15 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN GunGroup=1 MuzzlePosition=-0.13,0.26,0.66 LightPosition=-0.13,0.26,0.66 AimAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 <-- here MaxAmmo=500 EjectShells=FALSE MinExtentPosition=-0.17,-0.83,0.57 MaxExtentPosition=-0.07, 0.26,0.72 GunFireAnimationID=7 this is from the D7. I remember the middle number is up/down, the 1st or 3rd should be the left/right adjustment the 'measurment' is meters. minus numbers ie: 0.0,-1.0,0.0 would be 1 meter down from center. Plus signs are not needed. I'd start by moving them 'in' 0.5 for the 1st number, and see where they shoot. Both guns would need to be adjusted. BTW, minus numbers are left of center Hope that helps Wrench Kevin STein

MrCraig posted this at SimHQ, so it seems like you can modify aiming in the x,y,z planes. In this specific case the numbers for the Albatros3 originally were AimAngles=0.0,-2.0,0.0. Cheers......... "Studied the D5a gun section and added this to the D3 data.ini as a result: [internalGun1] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=7.92MM_SPANDAU_LMG08/15 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN GunGroup=1 MuzzlePosition=-0.1568,0.8085,0.5659 LightPosition=-0.1568,0.8085,0.5659 AimAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 <--------------------------*** MaxAmmo=500 EjectShells=TRUE EjectPosition=-0.17,-0.15,0.57 EjectVelocity=-1.25,0.0,-0.3 GunFireAnimationID=2 Fixed it "

Low (ish) FPS - SE5 Missions / Campaign
peter01 replied to catch's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The SE5 does have slower frame rates, even in external views. I can understand this in the cockpit (culprit the Aldis sight?? possibly), but not externally. I don't fly this plane as much for that reason, though I'd like to. I did reduced the horizon distance and reduced the bmp files for the SE5a to 256x256 instead of standard 512x512, but not with much difference. Also tried turning shadows off for SE5 alone in the ini file- but no improvement. Are there any suggestions from the gurus about what to do to make either the cockpit or external fps better for the SE5 - or even getting rid or changing the gunsight? The other planes are fine, so I'm not keen on changing general graphic options. -
Pulling all the skins I have up here
peter01 replied to Firecage's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yeah, the FE area and forums are becoming very unpleasant. There are a couple of posters who have real mischief in their heart, and with heaps of time. They are posting here as well as on SimHQ and the Thirdwire forum. They have caused similar ill will on the Sim Outhouse OFF forum, though this was stopped pretty quick. Usually going on about the same things, but causing whatever trouble they can. I'm a long time Il2 forum frequenter (both Ubi and SimHQ), and although the Ubi forum especially can be quite intimidating, thank christ neither the moderators nor the community will tolerate this behavior. They are put in their place pretty quick smart. A difficulty here with FE is the community isn't as large, and you will notice that these people hog the topics, constantly replying (no matter how moronic), and just wear everybody out. I think the moderators need to weed them out. -
Wonderful stuff. Graet plane, looks fabulous and flys great, a welcome addition. Keep up the good work
