  1. AH-1G Squatter Swatter

Had some downtime tonight so I decided to fight with the Abacus AH-1G. There is no repaint kit for this so I used dxtbmp and Photoshop. I decided I'd try to get Squatter Swatter done which was Hugh Mills's Cobra that he flew after his successful career as a Cav Scout pilot in the OH-6. Not done but I was able to use the kit decal set to get a lot right. I still need to modify the dental work and get that chin turret some teeth but it's looking good I think. Comments welcome. Once I'm finished and have permission I'll upload the textures.

  3. UH-1C release pending

About a month shy of release pending my finish of some textures, the photo-realistic VC and pilot/gunner animations. I'm cutting my teeth on this one before the UH-1D/H release. UH-1B is still in progress. The Mike model here representing FAS 323 was just for grins.
  4. UH-1C release pending

Given that I cant port this to SF2 what I've always wanted to do anyway was develop these as addons for CFS3 in the same vein as OFF did. That will also give me the option of creating more AC, rotorcraft and bases not to mention the ability to build out squadrons or flights. Into the A Shau would be a hell of a mission. I already have the desire but I'm a one man shop.
  5. UH-1C release pending

Unfortunately SF2 appears to be coded with 3D Studio Max and even with GMAX there is no way for me to port it otherwise I would love to for the Vietnam add-on. Bummer. I've got the following units fully textured: 174th Sharks (Easy Rider, Ace of Spades, Surfer, Mexican Express, Grim Reaper, Battlin Bitch, Woodstock, Cobra, Checkmate) 118th Bandits 120 Razorbacks 114th Knights of the Air HAL-3 Seawolves 101st Soc Trang Thunderbirds 121st Vikings 68th Mustangs I completed the entire overhead panel last night.

    Does this look familiar too?
  7. UH-1C release pending

I'd be more than happy to work on porting it over from FS9 - FSX if the .dxt and .dds textures will work. The Charlie doesn't have the toilet bowl anti-strella mod or the rooftop whip antenna. Here's my laundry list of left to do's: door pull handles tail UHF antenna even out particle separator fix troop seat - needs bow add mount points to M21 - add wires for electric attachment points fix cyclic grip fix collective shape & add detail add wiper boots add Grimes cabin lights add overhead console hand holds add reflex sight add rooftop details add clutter replace crew Diego, glad to see your still around. Nice job on the Snake. After the RAH-66 I'll be putting an AH-1G out there myself.
  8. UH-1C release pending

Thanks for the compliment! Despite the lack of any real feedback on multiple forums it's a really just a labor of love I wanted to share. I dearly want to learn XML programming to step this up to what it needs to be. While the cockpit is photo-realistic I want to be able to do the gauges with the same quality I see in the payware Hueys out there. This works in FSX-FS9-FS2002. Tested out in all three.
  9. AH-1G Squatter Swatter

Thanks! Unfortunately the texture for the chin turret is tied to the doghouse so I cant paint it up. I can still do quite a few Cobra units however and will release the textures soon.
  10. AF Finance NCO awarded Bronze Star

Sort of cheapens the Bronze star on my 69 year old neighbors wall right next to his Senior Aviators wings, DFCs, and Vietnam Legion of Merit for being a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. "Earn this" comes to mind. -Out
  11. C Co 227th AHB Bien Hoa

C Co 227th AHB was my fathers unit. These would have been the markings his slick sported.
  12. Bien Hoa

This is the 2nd Mustang-6 ship generated. You can see the cross tubes I added to the troop seat here along with the cabin poles to prevent the door gunners from shooting the pilots which actually occurred in Vietnam. The M21 support bar has not been lengthened in this model or moved up to the correct hull attachment point. In the 3rd model pictured in the hanger at Bien Hoa scenery you can see the work I've started on the armored seating. Also not visible in this image is a fully rendered overhead panel.

  14. Bien Hoa AFB 1969 copy

I have multiple projects I need to merge. In this one the blade antenna on the rooftop just between the greenhouse hasnt been moved forward while in other models it's in the correct position. This model also lacks the UHF tail antenna loops, ground handling wheel attachment points to the skids, tie down loops near the skid steps, the cross bars on the troop seat and the hull details are missing. All of those things mentioned are on later models.
  15. DCS:BS - Some WIP sneak peaks from ED

Right on! Give me the Nam or a Cold War. I'm working on that....just give me time. Lots left to do so forgive the missing attachment points on the M21 or other details, textures that are still in progress.

Unless they plan on allowing modding which could take the ground warfare aspect to a different level. Personally I'm happy to see them paying attention to detail. I cant stand some sims with low poly level textures to objects such as a nicely textured building sitting on an over pixelized rendering of ground terrain that looks more like blobs of green, brown and black or vehicles that look like paper cutouts with no AI.
  17. Whirlwind over Vietnam..

] Good review. I've always considered WoV a diamond in the rough. My father flew hueys with C Co 227th in Vietnam. I grew up learning about torgue, collective, cyclic, density air, dynamic rollover, blade stall, ground vortex and all sorts of things that most people don't talk about over a meal at Western Sizzler. I still think with some more work this would be the pinnacle for a Vietnam gunship sim. Other than that, I make my own Huey gunships with working armament so I can light it all up. .
  18. Whirlwind over Vietnam..

I got this long ago and have been only mildly playing with reverse engineering certain parts of it. The textures are all coded in .tex files which you need a scientific viewer to see. No dds or dxt3 here! There is a mission builder included but because the documentation sucked so horribly bad you would not know that nor are there any instructions on how to actually use it. The eye candy, very well rendered cockpits and gunships themselves are the reason I got it. As a Huey 3D Designer it's what drove me to waste my money on it. The sim also has some very advanced built in helicopter dynamics that most people just leave out so junior Johnson can just pick up his joystick and fly. Who builds in blade stall? Well they did so even getting off the ground can be problematic for people used to just throttling up and off we go. Sucked overall but with some decent coding it might be possible to resurrect it and make it what it should have been. I'd be willing to buy all the code just to continue the work and have a true Vietnam helicopter gunship simulator out there.

Iroquois Night Fighter Night Tracker UH-1M Gunship as used in Vietnam November 1969 to February 1970 as part of the test program. Equipped with IR searchlights mounted above the M134 mini-guns, Low Light Level TV in camera housing and FLIR. Most people don't know about the Night Fighter gunships of the Vietnam War whose development paved for the way for everything used today for NiteOps.

From the album UH-1C Huey Gunships

This is an early version and is missing the pitot tube, armored seating, correct cowl and particle seperator. The M5 Thumper has since been reworked and looks much better. The pilot was given a makeover as well.<br>
  23. Mustang 6

I've added the armored seating, fire extinquisher, tail markings, UHF antenna loops to the tail and updated the pilot. Much left to do.
