  1. Hope you can resolve the issue, she looks like a beauty, great work.
  2. Yup... along with countless greats. A shame really. Soon the pilot will be completely removed from the air. Nice HD video btw.
  3. Can anyone tell me the modes and ranges for radar in the SF2 series. I understand all aircraft are different and will have different modes and ranges, just looking for what the increments of the radar ranges are (from minimum to max) as well as all the modes available. I am creating a template for a panel in my cockpit in CS5 right now but still dont have access to the game to check myself. Id appreciate any info... putting radar mode selection and range on the panel via rotary switches.
  4. Radar range/modes

Interesting, I like that idea, didn't even cross my mind. I am going to look into maybe going that route. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper and easier... no interface exchange between the switches and the USB keyboard... Thanks for the post!
  5. Radar range/modes

Nice, what do you use for the eject handle? A momentary switch... I was thinking about using one that is normally on, then when you pull the handle it moves off the button (turning it on).. but wasnt sure if it was worth it if you cant eject... sounds like you can. Thanks for the tips, I'll post some photos when I am done, still planning certain things out right now and deciding what would go well on the panel
  6. Radar range/modes

Yeah, I have been thinking about that and ways around it. I just got my G940 in the mail and I think I might stick the radar modes/ranges on that, I ran into the same issue after reading the manual about bomb ripples and intervals... maybe put the radar mode/range and bomb ripple/interval on the throttle P buttons? ...maybe. I made a quick template in CS5, its in no particular order or anything, not really to scale either, I was just seeing what I could do in the hour I had free last night. I think I want to still have a working panel, any thoughts about controls I could put in the panel? The ones I have are the ones I thought would be nice on a panel but with the issues above any thoughts? Cheers
  7. Good to know.... been here like 2 weeks building a new computer and pit for this game and FSX and modders are all of a sudden leaving and things seem grim. If I can fly around in Nam with all these great mods courteous of you all I'll be a happy camper. Whats with all the lock downs and making games less open? Is it a pride thing or money thing?
  8. Hey Wrench, if thats the case, a site like this will still be around with all the previous mods/addons for the previous series correct?..... or does it all just go away if modding capability goes away?
  9. Radar range/modes

Awesome, thanks for the help, I'll check those descriptions out and see what I can do with the switches, maybe use two 6 position rotary switches so I can get all the possibilities
  10. Just curious about tail hook realism in the game... I just finished my computer build so I still havent been able to install and play the games, so this may be a dumb question... Are the Naval/Marine Corps aircraft the only ones that have tail hooks, and is there a way to create a mod to add emergency arresting gear to land based runways? I was an aircraft recovery specialist in the USMC from 03-07 and from looking at the screens it seems like its not available and would be a good addition to have, not sure about foreign planes but I know all US military fixed fighter/attack have tail hooks. It would be great if you don't just blow up on landing if you are damaged (dont know, still havent flown the game). If thats the case it would be awesome to be able to take damage and divert/come in to a land based airbase and take an emergency trap and survive....
  11. No worries, if you need anything else let me know. They are 'roll in' type arresting gear, so aircraft would usually touch down well before the cable and just roll into it to snag the wire. I know fresnel lenses are a no go for the game, so I am assuming PAPI's are as well.....
  12. Looks like the locations vary, but are within 1000 and 2000 foot markers. At Futenma air station in Okinawa they are 1407 away from the threshold on 06 and 1151 from 24's threshold.
  13. edit: my knowlegde of the runway recovery systems equals to zero so I don't know if the position would be closer to standard touchdown point or not. Also I guess barricade nets would have use on runways too(?) but these aren't modelled in any sim I guess M-21 gear is in the middle of the airfield and its the deployable system.. well old system, but the E-28 emergency gear is placed at the ends of the runway... its been a while since I was in but maybe 1000 feet from the thresholds, they are marked by a black sign with a big yellow circle
  14. Messing around with the idea of creating a mission pack/campaign set in Vietnam. Researching some things and reading some history books and got the idea to create something, maybe like 20 a mission campaign or something, missions in North and South, CAP's, bombing, attack, fixed wing, helo, Navy based, USAF based, basically a good mix to keep things flowing and interesting, it would be thick and heavy and could end up taxing lower ended machines. Sound interesting to anyone? Wouldn't be up for a quiet a while, just in the planning stages now and figured I'd ask if there is even any interest in something like that.... might have been over done at this point. Thanks
  15. Alright, I'll start planning it, if anyone has ideas or wants let me know. You all think its nice to have the missions in a chronological type order or what? I would like to keep it fresh with one mission flying super sabers and then the next A-7's, so on. With that though the dates or I guess the accuracy would be affected but I think that would be better then a few missions flying this... then this, so on. Maybe a multiple story line one? I don't know... Suggestions?
  16. Hey guys, a stupid question, If I purchase the SF2 expansion pack 2, it says SF2 Europe is required. I get that.... but if I buy Vietnam and Israel as well as Europe, will the expansion pack features like the mission editor, ect be available to use in the others? Is everything interchangeable or is it all separate, like I have to quit SF2 Vietnam to go play around in SF2 Israel? Also, is the expansion pack even worth it? From what I've seen around here you all seem to have all the bases covered. Is it better to just get the mission editor separately? Hopefully I will be up and running in a few weeks and I can figure out my stupid questions on my own through trial and error but until then, I will try to keep them to a minimum and move around the forums picking up hints and looking at screenshots wishing I was flying, its amazing the progress in combat sims since FA. Thanks guys
  17. Hey thanks Fubar, sounds like its safe to say that those two things (AA refueling + Fresnel) are out indefinitely since I am asking about them and SF has been around for years. A shame really... I can't really think of anything else that hinders the game. Has TK said no, no and no?
  18. Thanks FC, is the cat steam a mod or just part of the game? So the AA refueling and fresnel would be up to the creator of the game, TK to implement? What about the old FA audio files for carrier landings, they kind of directed you, better then nothing. I saw in some other post someone uploaded the old FA music, but something like this would have to follow the event which I would assume would be in the MAX file, whatever that is? After a week of looking around here and gawking over the screen shots its seems like those two things would be basic combat sim stuff, Its the only areas FSX has over this game in my opinion, everything else blows FSX away. One other thing while on the topic of rambling about nothing, how does SF deal with force feedback sticks? Thanks Fubar, that is my next area to read through now that I am getting closer to finishing the build on my new machine.
  19. Ok, got it. A couple other questions. Since I am late to the game, I cant seem to find some of the older versions of mods. For example, if I want the Nam expansion pack 2.0, it says it needs to be installed over the previous version, but I cant seem to find it anywhere. And it probably exists, but how hard would it be to create a mod to add steam to the catapults on carriers? I just haven't seen any screens of that so Im not sure if it exists. Also, working fresnel lens? Air-air refueling?
  20. Thanks guys, there are some things I've seen in it that will probably make it worth it, plus its always good to support the platform so it stays. @stingray77.... Yeah I dont know, I just remember in FA you could go do some campaign missions in Nam and then decide you wanted to go do more modern combat and it was just a mouse click away, so on. Like if SF2 was the base, then Vietnam, Europe, ect were levels within that platform. Also you could fly any of your planes where ever, so you could take a F-14 with phoenix missiles into Vietnam for a turkey shoot if you felt like it. Just curious about the platform and how everything gels. I've seen the 'merged' thing and thats what sparked that question, since you can have merged and not. @Doc, if you dl terrain effects and explosion effects, what's the best way to install them since you would want them to show up in all the games you have? Do you have to copy them into each game. It wouldn't be a hassle but is there a quicker way or folder for 'all' the games you have?
  21. Hello, I am looking at some options for a flight control system and am leaning towards the Logitech G940 found here : http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Flight-System-Feedback-Joystick/dp/B002G1YPP2/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332556483&sr=1-8 I was just wondering if this stick is compatible with SF2 Vietnam and if you all have any other recommendations. Also on a separate note, I know nothing about the PC world anymore since I left it after Janes died out. I recently sold my old pickup and have some cash to burn, and came across this 'march madness' deal, and curious if any of you who know PCs if this is a good deal. Will be going HDMI into 52" LED so no monitor needed. The price before tax is $1290, including Windows 7. CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad-Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011 HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive) MEMORY: 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Quad Channel Memory (Corsair Vengeance) MOTHERBOARD: * (3-Way SLI Support) Gigabyte X79-UD3 Intel X79 Chipset Quad Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ UEFI DualBIOS, Dolby Home Theater 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 4 Gen3 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe X1 & 1 PCI SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB 16X PCIe Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA) Deal or no deal? Thanks guys.
  22. Hello, wow am I late to the party. I used to be a huge gamer with the old 56k set up and Janes Fighters Anthology, but as that platform died out, so did I. I recently came across some Razbam addons for FSX just viewing youtube videos, which sparked the fire of the old flight combat sims, and after some searching found SF and this site... to the point, I am wanting to purchase SF2 Vietnam soon but want to know about some things. I have a very capable machine that can run basically anything out now but am curious about if SF Vietnam is stand alone, and what addon/mods are a must for realism/gameplay/graphics ect. I can poor over aircraft and so on, just hoping for a little help to narrow some must have ones right out of the gate. Also, is there a mission creator in SF2 Vietnam, I've seen some mission add ons and that was an awesome part of Janes FA. Thanks in advance and sorry for the FNG post, Im sure its not the only one and you all are sick of them. Hope to become a regular around here now that it seems like the glory days are back for combat flight sims (for me that is)!
  23. @eraser_tr, thanks, thats great to hear that I can still contribute to the effort. @romflyer, I am heading out to work now, but once I get the planning stages into actual development, I'll post pictures. But as of now I believe I will go the route of an open front end, since all these games have fantastic 3D workable cockpits I wouldn't want to cover that up. I'll fabricate a chair, angled with center stick position, throttle left and pedals, with probably 32 workable switches mounted front, but left/right.... if that make sense. Ill have it on wheels so I can move it pretty close to my 52 inch LCD and just a bit off the ground to get a good eye angle. I'll be using three different switches/buttons ROTARY PULSE SWITCHES- Which can be programed different for clockwise/counter movement (Ideal for radar modes, ect) SPDT Toggles-- Three position switches ON-OFF-ON SPST Push Botton- ON-OFF I'll be creating a template using modeling software, printing it out, then drilling ect. Still thinking about backlighting the panels with LED. Lots of soldering. That interface will go into some kind of distribution box, using those monitor plug ins... DB9 maybe?? or USB, then into the tower. Anyways, more later, I got to go to work.... sigh.
  24. Thanks guys, awesome stuff. I will follow your advice and get used to the game before adding on first, not sure how long I can last though knowing that the A-6 Intruder is just waiting for me. That mission creator in FA was awesome, glad to see there is something out there. I am currently building some custom panels for a cockpit I have started and can't wait to get it programmed, anyone with advice or have done anything like that out there? I have a plan already but its always nice to see others and generate more ideas and modify. Im sure theres a post about this, but it seems like the mod community around here is awesome, how does one contribute, more so in ideas I should say since the extent of my modifying things was just changing text in some files in FA. Thanks for the welcome aboards
