  1. You want tougher AI? It's quite simple. It's called multiplay, it don't get any tougher than that. Oh god, there goes that Doghouse using that 9 letter word again! And you all thought he was chained up in the back yard.
  2. I have Lee's DBS terrain in archive. Perhaps if you could give me the full name of the file you are looking for (is it DBS_Textures.INI?) I could fire it over to you.
  3. I've downloaded ths file twice and get the same results when extracting. ! H:\SF-WOV Addons\Aircraft\Jets\F-4B Bicentennial\F_4Bicentennial.rar: CRC failed in Pilots\CoPilotoBicent.bmp. The file is corrupt ! H:\SF-WOV Addons\Aircraft\Jets\F-4B Bicentennial\F_4Bicentennial.rar: Unexpected end of archive H:\SF-WOV Addons\Aircraft\Jets is the directory I download my files to, and extract them there as well. Is there a corrupted file in here somewhere? The Pilots folder is empty so that file isn't unpacking either. What am I doing wrong?
  4. As a consumer, I have the right, and a duty, to try to make a manufacturer make a better product. And THAT would be a benefit to all of us, incluging you Aggie. As consumers we have the final say as to whether a company or it's products fail or succeed. I want to see this succeed so much I could scream! Nice idea about going to work for TK in marketing though. I've already got a lifetime of experiences in production and marketing, and am semi retired at the moment. I'm all for it, when do I start? (I have raised my concerns with TK in the past too.) How bout it TK, time we blew the roof off don't you think? Well, this airjunkie is off for another fix.
  5. Another TK sim with no multiplay? You gotta be kidding right! The multiplay community won't be touching this one either. And if TK doesn't want to totally ruin his reputation with that community for future sales with something that might have multiplay, he better get with the program. Sorry guys, I won't be recommending this to anyone, instead steering them away from it. His time would be much better spend fixing what he already has. Someone want to tell me I'm wrong on this, that this sim DOES have multiplay support?
  6. SFP1 and SFG are the same game. Chances are if you play anyone at hyperlobby, they will be using SFP1. Drop by sometime and we'll tell you how to make it happen. If nobody is there come by the Wings Over Vietnam room and look someone up there because there's a good chance they have SFP1/SFG also. For multiplay purposes stay with version 8.30.06, it's a much better multiplay version than Oct08. Here's a link for hamachi: http://www.hamachi.cc/download/list.php
  7. Hyperlobby supports Strike Fighters. A lot of folks play it thru Hamachi also. And you might check GameSpy, they too may still support it.
  8. if you are going to play multiplay I suggest you stay with the 8.30.06 version, it's better for that purpose than Oct08; To get WOV to 8.30.06 standard, do a fresh install, then install Service Pack 5.15.06; http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=7413 Next install patch 8.30.06; http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=3229 If you plan on playing single player only then go with Oct08. You might consider installing both versions on your HD if you want to play both.
  9. My toughest opponent is Sixgun, Spungie, Creature, and Redbat. As for the MiG-17, it's to overly moddeled in the Oct08 update it's laughable.
  10. First joystick - What to buy?

Legitech Extreme 3D Pro. It's served me well for 5 years now with absolutely no problems. Costs about 45 bucks but can be had for around 30 if you shop around for sales. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if it was necessary. Whichever stick you get, don't be a gurilla. Go easy on them and they'll last a long time. Don't get a stick that doesn't have a twist grip for rudder controls unless you decide to go whole hog and get the flight yokes peddles and everything.
  11. Hamachi seems to be the best way for most folks to connect. We are using hyperlobby as a means to meet up before starting a game either through hyperlobby or hamachi. A guy can host from hyperlobby, and if he has a hamachi server open, people can join from there as well. That seems to be the best option for the host. The Oct08 patch is not a good multiplay patch because of all the UFO's involved, and it's exceeding long load times. Most of us are using a stock 8.30.06 install for multiplay. Hopefully sometime in the future TK will address the MP issues but don't hold your breath. In the meantime we are having a blast playing what we already have that works. So, how do you set up a hamachi network with no password? I didn't know you could do that. Please tell me how.
  12. SFP1 and WOV mainly because they run the smoothest on my computer and because I grew up in the Vietnam era. Israel is not my war. As far as SFP2 is concerned, any sim with no multiplay is just a playstation game, and not worth any further consderation or mention.
  13. Looking for old Janes games

I see Janes F/A18 has had a major upgrade/rewrite and has a growing poplarity in multiplay. Perhaps it's time I reinstall that sim and see what all the hub bub is about. Anyone know anything about USAF? Last I heard it was rumored to be playable again under XP Service Pack 3. But I haven't run across anyone who can verify that for sure. World War 2 Fighters is burnable. USAF is burnable using the right program. Not sure about FA18, haven't tried doing that yet.
  14. Looking for old Janes games

THey aren't available anywhere for download that I know of You'll have to locate a used copy somewhere. I might suggest e-bay, amazon, or check out some of the computer gaming stores and see what they might have on consignment in thier used game bins. Another option is to locate a person who has what you are looking for and have him burn you a copy. I know burning copies isn't considered "right", but I figure when a game goes out of print all best are off. If a company has a problem with that, they they shouldn't have allowed them to go out of print should they?
  15. Nice job Dels. You had me going there, trying to figure out how I missed the F-29, then finding out this is an X-plane that never made it to F production. For those new guys wanting to know a bit more about this; The X-29 was built to explore state-of-the-art technologies in aircraft design. The most easily identified of these, the forward-swept wing, was combined with advanced materials, a forward mounted elevator (canard) and an electrical flight control system. The purpose of this combination of features was to test how well all these elements worked together before they were used in future aircraft. Both Germany and the United States experimented with FSW aircraft during World War II but did not use them operationally. One problem with the new design was that the wings could not be made rigid enough to keep them from bending dangerously at higher speeds. In the 1970s, however, composite materials became available, and wing structures could be built that were both lightweight and very rigid. Grumman began building the first of two X-29As in 1982. The program was administered by the USAF and jointly funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Air Force and NASA. The first X-29A, the one on display at the museum, made its initial flight on Dec. 14, 1984, at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. On Dec. 13, 1985, during its 26th flight, this aircraft became the world’s first FSW aircraft to exceed the speed of sound in level flight. After successfully completing the test program, the X-29A was retired to the museum in late 1994. The second X-29A made its first flight on May 23, 1989, and continued to perform test flights well into the 1990s. SPECIFICATIONS: Span: 27 ft. 2 in. Length: 48 ft. 1 in. Height: 14 ft. 3 in. 17. The scorekeeper in these sims never could count, it's been like that from the beginning. We refer to him as the SK, is probably the village idiot. Just pay him no mind.
  18. Spectre, what a brilliant idea, don't know why I didn't think of that. You are the man. I'm taking the 20 bucks I'd spend on SF2 and sticking it in the cookie jar next to my computer and buying the next combat flight sim that actually works in multiplay. Thank you thank you thank you.
  19. Unless multiplay is fixed, I'm not going to toch this one with a 10 foot stick. Nor will I tough the others. Why should I purchase something I already have, something that's already broken? Nothing like throwing good money after bad. Sorry TK.
  20. Do you fly for your own country in sims?

I usually find myself flying as a third party, or a pirate or on some fictional force that never existed but wages war on both sides. My aircraft are skinned that way too, in one sim I actually flew as a pirate with a pirate's jolly roger flag, and in another with no other markings than a scorpion. I think the reason I do this is to try to piss both sides off so they'll ALL fly against me. Of course I take my share of lumps, but it's one sure fire way to impove those ACM skills in one quick hurry. The rest of the time I do fly for my country because I suppose it's patriotic to do so. Though when it comes down to it, it actually makes no difference because who's paying attention anyway. I'm certainely not.
  21. Whats Missing? That's a no brainer. MULTIPLAY!
  22. I might suggest we call each file by what TK originally named it, and provide a link to the file. That should eliminate any confusion. (Hey, I said all that without using the words Service Pack, Patch, or Update)
  23. Looking for multiplayer servers

Hyperlobby has a dedicated section for Falcon 4 AF. You might look there, I see people on occasion playing there.
  24. Perhaps this will help clarify things. I copied TK's patch pages BEFORE he released the Oct08 patch and erased the previous data. The info below is a Copy and Paste of that page. I know it's not showing up like it should on his site on this forum page, but the information is correct. You will note that TK called one a Service Pack and the other a Patch. I've been trying to call them by what TK originally named them so as NOT to cause any confusion. Things started to get confusing when TK released 3 other Wings games, some requiring a Service Pack and Patch, others requiring only a Patch, and then started calling the Oct08 patches an upgrade in the same breath. Now when I download a Service Pack or Patch or Upgrade or whatever anyone else wants to call them I also copy the web page where it came from and stick them all in an appropriate folder for archive because I too am getting confused by all this. But, to bring a stock SFP1 game up to 8.30.06 specs, both files must be installed. ------------------------------------------------------- From TK's web site---------------------------------------------------------------- Strike Fighters: Project 1 Patch (v08.30.06) This patch brings the game up to the latest version. This patch is a cumulative patch since the Service Pack, and it contains all the fixes from previous patches. It can be applied to any version of Strike Fighters: Project 1 with Service Pack applied. Please read the Readme.txt for more details. Patch v08.30.06 (5.73 MB) Strike Fighters: Project 1 Service Pack (v05.15.06) This Service Pack is a major upgrade to Strike Fighters: Project 1 and includes many new and exciting features, fixes, and improvements. It contains all the fixes from all previous patches and service packs, and it can be applied to any version of Strike Fighters: Project 1. Please read the Readme.txt for more details. Service Pack v05.15.06 (74.2 MB) After upgrading with this Service Pack, the game will require at least the April 2006 version of DirectX to run correctly. If you're receiving "missing d3dx9_3x.dll" error, this means your DirectX 9.0c is not up to date. (Aug 2008 is the most current version) To download and install the latest DirectX, please visit Microsoft website at DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (only download and install needed files) Alternatively, you can download full DirectX End-User Runtimes (80.3 MB) to upgrade computer without internet connection during installation.
