Strike Fighters P1 Service Packs
Doghouse replied to chiller1064's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Dave, you're getting this confused with Wings Over Europe. The game in question is Strike Fighters Project 1. There was a Service Pack version 5.15.06 AND a patch version 8.30.06. They are NOT the same, one being 74.2 MB in size while the other is 5.73 MB. The Service Pack brought SFP1 up to the WOE standard at the time. BTW, hope you had a great Thanksgiving. :-) -
Strike Fighters P1 Service Packs
Doghouse replied to chiller1064's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
CombatAce seems to remove the old patches prematurely. It would be nice if they kept that last versions available especially for the multiplay folks and those wanting to use the weapons packs. Anyway, the patches you want are the Service Pack 5.15.06 (74.2 MB) and the patch 8.30.06 (5.73 MB). You will have to google search the Service Pack. CombatAce still has the service pack available athttp://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=3227. Don't ask me why they post the patch without posting the service pack. If you have trouble locating the Service Pack, let me know and I'll try to rectify the situation for you. -
Dave, is that beer glass registered, and are you licensed to carry it? Seriously though, retailers who run these sales from 4 am to 8 am are only setting things up so this sort of thing can happen. There is absolutely no reason they can't open on their regular business hours, and run those sales for a week or even longer. That would go a long way with reducing that mob of tired, unthinking, frustrated and desperate gang of people. Hasn't anyone heard of shopping online? Sales come during the whole year, why wait till after thanksgiving to start shopping? Save gas, save lives, save time, save wear and tear on your car, save money and save your sanity by staying out of this situation in the first place. We as consumers have a hand in this by allowing ourselves to play this game too. If nobody showed up for those stupid early morning sales, retailers would be forced to rethink the whole thing.

Operation Mountain Twilight v 1.1
Doghouse replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I find it courious that Wrench calls that area the "River of No Return". Anyone know exactly where this America Northwest terrain map is based from? I used to go whitewater river running, camping, fishing and hang gliding in a region in North Idaho in the Seven Devils-Riggins-Snake River-Hell's Canyon and Salmon River area. This terrain mod almost fits that area like a glove. Anyway, the courious thing is, the nickname for the Salmon River is the "River of No Return". -
Some MiG ini mods
Doghouse replied to Dload's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
The MiG-19 with the Oct08 patch is way out of line. Damn things is a rocket ship that turns like a spitfire. Did you fix that with this mod? If so I'm thinking of "fixing" my Oct08 install with it. It's certainely to bad they don't test these patches in multiplay because we can spot things that they can't possibly see in single player ops. -
October 2008 patches for ALL ThirdWire Sims has been released.
Doghouse replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Are these new patches all inclusive? Can I toss Sept08 out? Has anyone tested these patches in multiplay before release? Dave, don't be in a hurry to delete out the older 5.15.06 and 8.30.06 patches this time. -
The VMFA-531 is no more. I'm assuming you want to join a squadron that plays multiplay? Best way to do that is to start playing multiplay and get to know the people. There aren't many online squadrons in the SFP1-Wings series. So it shouldn't be to hard figuring out which ONE you might want to join. Good luck.

This sim needs a Russian Bear, a Tu-95 I think it's called. -
Wings Over Vietnam Service Pack v05.15.06
Doghouse replied to creature's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
This patch creature posted is the service pack for Wings Over Vietnam, Service Pack v05.15.06 (43.1 MB). He and I are refering to that sim and not any other. Dave, how bout you pull these posts and clean them up for us? There's already to much confusion here. -
Wings Over Vietnam Service Pack v05.15.06
Doghouse replied to creature's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Dave, I have to disagree with you. For multiplay we are going back to the old 8.30.06 standard. To do that you FIRST need to install Service Pack v05.15.06 (43.1 MB) followed by Patch v08.30.06 (5.91 MB) on a clean install. As you can see, there is no way 8.30.06 contains everything in the service pack since it's just 1/8th the size. TK had both of these files posted at his site till he released the Sept08 patch. The 8.30.06 patch is posted at CombatAce, the 5.15.06 Service Pack was not. Would be nice to see both posted and labeled correctly since creature's posting is a bit confusing in that he's referencing 8.30.06 here when in reality he's providing the 5.15.06 Service pack. -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
Doghouse replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Warlord, you and your friends are invited to fly with us in multiplayer anytime. Those of us playing WOV online are all refugees from other sims who have also got a bellyfull of the "buttheads" as you like to call them. I know exactly what you mean. However, we strive to be a different breed here in WOV's online play, flying with the utmost in professionalism and honor and respect to fellow flyers. Except those from Sturmovokia who we jump all over and send em back to IL2 where they belong. Can't have those folks mucking things up for us here in Nam. We have gone back to a stock install version 8.30.06 till TK and company gets things sorted out. We meet in Hyperlobby, and play from there if we can. If that fails, we open hamachi and play from there. My hamachi server name is WOV2 password is wov2. It's case sensative so watch those CAPs. Most of what we fly are coop missions and I think you'd really enjoy doing those. And I think you might like the gang that plays this in MP. We prefer playing SFP1 and WOV because those sims seem to work best for most folks in multiplay, where WOE and WOI demand more than what most folks have for computers. Dialup works fine with these sims so don't let that bother you if you are saddled with it. I think you will find that online play here ends up being a study in pure air combat maneuvering. And if you find yourself in a dogfight scrap, make sure you got guys like Sixgun, creature or Spungie on your side, you'll last longer that way. Cheers bud. -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
Doghouse replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This latest patch is a great step forward in TK's Wings series, in single player mode anyway. But this isn't our problem with it, the problem is with Multiplay. I did a clean install, then installed the Sept 08 patch and there are NO airports anywhere to be found in Multiplay. Next I tried swapping in the 8.30.06 Vietnam.cat file and still no airports. There's nothing wrong with my computer guys, so stop trying to pass it off with that. And I'm not the only one who's seeing this. There are some of us who like to play in multiplay mode because, no matter how good you make the AI, it'll never be as good as another person piloting that plane. We play multiplay not only for entertainment, but because we want to really get good at air combat maneuvering. That's something that'll never happen flying against AI. Sure, you can get good, but you can only go so far. After you master AI, there will come a time too when you want to progress to the next level. So for those of us playing in multiplayer, this patch was a terrible step backwards. Creature (those of you asking who he is why not come online sometime and meet him the rest of the gang, they are great people to be around) and I flew all over Vietnam last night, there wasn't one airport to be found, nowhere, not in the North, nor in the South. Just patches of grass where the airports were supposed to be. My god, put a fense around it and pasture the livestock! Now tell me how happy any of you would be if that happened to you in single player mode? I wonder how folks would react if things were turned around and we multiplay types tried telling you your computers were all messed up and to go out and buy a new one? And before any of you suggest we are way off base, how about joining us in multiplay so you'll learn what we are talking about. Until you do that your arguments have no merit. You guys have no idea how much sweat and tears and passion we pour into this, not counting all the free technical support we offer to those having problems, and it really hurts when the only thing someone can offer is calling us multiplay folks a bunch of buttheads. Why, because we see a problem nobody else sees, or are refusing to see? How many of you have purchased the game out of your own pockets and sent it off to some stranger in a foreign land somewhere, not expecting to be reimbursed for your efforts? The multiplay gang support this sim and TK in all sorts of ways, and get no thanks from anyone. TK's response is to tell us to kiss off, yet we STILL support him. I don't think asking for a little consideration is asking to much. Creature, Spungie, Streakeagle, Catbutt, Sixgun, supercharger and I have been here from the beginning, we've weathered poor patches in the past, we'll get through this one too even if we have to fix it ourselves. For multiplay, this patch is an abomination and we have s**tcanned it and gone back to 8.30.06. Oh yes, I know, TK has no intention of fixing anything multiplay. We have no say in any of this. But we do! We as consumers have a tremendous say. From a business standpoint, this lack of multiplayability will forever keep TK's sims in the minor leagues. And don't anyone tell me this isn't effecting his bottom line either. This isn't rocket science guys. Sure we have 12,000 people in CA enjoying this sim. But if MP worked that figure would be a hundred fold bigger. Just imagine the mods we'd have with a base like that. Fix multiplay and TK's going to rule the roost for a very long time and make a nice chunk of change in the process. TK has the best sim going right now as far as I'm concerned, but he's left the barn door open and he better close it before the cows get out. What I mean is, he's left the way open for someone else to grab this concept with a workable multiplay function and take his thunder. If that happens then EVERYTHING everyone has done around here is a waste. I don't want to see that happen anymore than any of you. But the demand is there waiting for someone to grab it. But be warned, if someone else comes out with a sim similar to this one that actually works, we multiplay rats will jump ship and we won't be the only ones to do it. Please don't single us MP folks out for being upset because we are every bit as much a part of this as any of the SP people. Yes, each of us ALSO plays this in single player mode. We are on your side guys, we want to see this succeed just as much (if not more) than anyone. The bottom line here is this patch really messed up multiplay and this isn't going to do any of us any good in the long run. -

Well here we go again, SP2 all over again. For you guys wanting to play Wings Over Vietnam in multiplay, forget this latest patch. Here is what you'll get. _no airports to land at, so what good is being able to shut off your engines gonna do you? _what happened to the VMFA-531 Grey Ghost squadron? They are gone. _frame rates take a terrible hit, it's gawd awful now. _graphics are worse now then before. _I'm sure there's more but I'm not investigating any further. So it's back to the Doghouse Patch again, only this time I'm not doing it. It's someone else's turn and I'm passing the tourch to them. My fix it to return to 8.30.06 till this is sorted out. I'm sure you beta testers are not happy with me, but I've NEVER seen you in multiplay doing any testing in the first place, so really, who should be the one who's not happy! -

Hey, I'm having this problem too. No ground units, it's all an airwar, using Major Lee's ANW terrain in SFP1. But I'm getting smacked on the second mission after winning the first. I gave up on this campaign and archived it. I'd love to know the fix because I'd love to fly it again. (This war isn't about oil or who's building nukes, it's about sausage and beer. We have the beer and they have the sausage and nobody's willing so share it.) So, where did I go wrong? -
For those flyin' WOV

Spungie and I are still flying missions over Hanoi in Multiplay. You guys are missing out on some fun. Plus we have an awsome terrain map that's not been used much yet. -
I used to be one of those blokes who'd equate modding with cheating. Back when Janes World War 2 Fighters was popular I really stood high on that soapbox. Then I ran across a site offering a couple CD's of mods for that sim. Taking a closer look at what they had to offer, found myself hardpressed to call anything there a cheat. So I got the CD's and started playing around with them. To my suprise, I learned mods weren't cheats afterall (at least they didn't have to be) but were totally new content that could change a game in a very positive way. That changed my thinking on mods. Mods are new content, cheats are cheats, two totally different things. So I started building airplanes to fly on Mars in X-Plane. I felt safe there because there wasn't anyone around on Mars to laugh at my projects. But I suppose if I had to pick a start time, it would have to be with Strike Fighters Project 1. Even though I still consider modding over my head and beyond my skills, and anyone calling me a modder is really stretching things. Being a part of this project has been a very exciting and fullfilling experience for me. I have you guys to thank for it.

Enhanced Autumn, Winter, Spring Terrain
Doghouse replied to Ruggbutt's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series File Announcements
"You must install this mod with the newest version of ModMan" Well if that don't beat all. You aren't the only one who does this, it happens all to often. A guy posts a mod that looks to be really cool, then says we need another piece of the puzzle. Would it be to much to ask that people who do this include a link to that piece? In this case a link to the newest version of ModMan? It sure gets frustrating on our end not having all the parts to really put this together. Anyway, thanks for the tiles. I'll get it all sorted out sometime. -
Phantom Skins?

Have you looked in MarcFighters? http://marcfighters.combatace.com/ -
Wow Dave, you need to start listening to the good music. May I direct you to this place; http://chu65nang67.us/nam/vietnam.html You can't download the music there, only play it. However, if you fire up a wav recording or similar program, you can record while you listen to it. Works much faster than downloading anyway. And is a great source of material for doing music mods. Plus there are a couple links there to similar sites.

Can you add a nation to Nations.ini file?
Doghouse replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Oops, sorry, didn't read your other question on how to do it. First, locate the MissionData.cat file (located in the Flight folder) and extract the Nations.ini file from it. If you don't have the Cat File Extraction program, get it here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=343 Next, open the Nations.ini file and add the following to the end of the list, making sure the [Nation0xx] is the last number in sequence in the Nations.ini file. Leave the edited Nations.ini file in your Flight folder. The game will run using this new ini file, but if you decide to $hitcan it, just delete the file and the game will go back to using the Nations.ini file located within the MissionData.cat file. It should look something like this; [Nation0xx] Name=UAF DisplayName=Ukrainian Air Force Alignment=ENEMY PilotNameList=NamesRussian.lst RankList=RanksRussian.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=SovietFighter Formation.Attack=SovietFighter Formation.Bomber=SovietBomber Formation.Transport=SovietBomber Formation.Tank=SovietTank Formation.MobileAD=SovietAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 -
Can you add a nation to Nations.ini file?
Doghouse replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
You should be able to. I added "Scorpions" to the list with no ill effects. Now when I want to fly my squad colors as a nation, I can. However, I'm not sure how this will effect multiplay because I only did this in my offline single player version of the game and not in my multiplay version.
