Death Valley & Mountain Thunder missions
Doghouse replied to Doghouse's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I have moved the ANW Mountain Thaw terrain mod that goes with these missions to a new site away from CombatAce. Anyone wanting to download this terrain will have to contact me directly for the link to where they can be downloaded. -
Operation Mountain Twilight v1.2
Doghouse replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I'd like to clear the air a bit on this Mountain Thaw terrain mod. The terrain tiles used are NOT of my creation. Please stop crediting me with them. They came from a Germany mod I received a while back, that had no information on who the author was. Because of that I never credited anyone for the tiles. I believe they are Dueces, but have no way to verify, and I will not argue the point. Dueuces I'm so terribly sorry for any confusion this has caused, none of it was intentional. Those tiles are absolutely beautiful and thank you for sharing them with us. CA has removed Mountain Thaw from their data base. I have since updated the mod giving credit where credit is due and am waiting for the green light to post the mod again. However this has taken far to long. Until then, anyone wanting (the updated) Mountain Thaw will have to contact me directily. -
1989 World in Conflict based campaign
Doghouse replied to ShadowRain X Zero's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Perhaps I did misunderstand the original question. I thought the intent was to start the campaign from the beginning and not After the baddies were already established. Yes, the 336th IS a rapid deployment force, but if you want to do a campaign based on that time period you should account for something like that because it WILL happen. And I'm kinda miffed at how the Soviets got everything in place and in play without anyone ever noticing in the first place, because they too will need time getting their assets placed. Guess they did manage that somehow, so whatever. OK, spot the opposing team 30 points and lets rock and roll. Good luck with your project, am looking forward to it. -

That's quite right, it wouldn't have taken months, nor would it take weeks. The U.S. would have had an "airforce" in there within 24 hours to hold defensive positions, and within 36 hours capable of taking it to the enemy. Read that book and you'll find out how it would have been done. Plus you'll get a wealth of information to use for all sorts of campaigns. -

You might want to read "Fighter Wing: A Guided Tour of an Airforce Combat Wing" by Tom Clancy. It's quite an insight into the USAF and their strategies. And it's a most excellent read as well. -

Getting continuous CTDs in Strike Fighters
Doghouse replied to Dysko's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I seem to recall having a similar problem after installing a new airplane. Try changing the Nation you are flying for to something different. Or make sure the nation that aircraft is tagged for is included in your Nations.ini file. Also look into the squadron tag is included in the SquadronList.ini file as well. Crashing this early into the game load suggests something is happening in there somewhere. It can be something really bonehead simple like a misspelled word or a space where there should/shouldn't be one. Good luck. You might also consider making a backup of your modded install. I use an external USB hard drive for backups and it works great. -
For any of you "Ghosts" out there looking for a place to play on hamachi, I took the liberty to open a network for us. Feel free to meet here any time; Network Name = VMFA-531 Password = Grey Ghosts This is case sensative so watch those CAPs. You guys can play here even when I'm not around, just open the network and go for it. Cheers. Egads, guess I better start saying "hoo rah".

How do you repack Il2 SFS files?
Doghouse replied to gijs71's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mods & Skinning Chat
The CAT file extractor is NOT illegal. TK gave us that program so we could mod his Strike Fighters series of sims. He updates that program and posts it on HIS web site for all to download and use. Ths SFS extractor is another story. It doesn't seem to be supported by Oleg. However it is posted on various Russian internet sites which makes me very suspicious that he's leaked that program. Not the first time his stuff has leaked. What better way to stimulate sales of your new SoW series than to trash the previous game? Not like that hasn't happened in the past either. There appears to be a striking difference between those two programs and the folks using them. Those modding the Strike Fighters series are expanding and growing the sim by creating new content, not cheats. That content eventually finds it's way into the next series in line. That way, those playing the game become the contributors to the next series in line. Those modding the Sturmovik series don't appear to be creating anything new, only cheats. This boils down to a community decision guys. Just what kind of future do you want for your sim? Do you want to build and expand a sim by creating new and exciting material, or do you want to destroy a sim by creating cheats? My personal choice is to build. The decision is yours fellas. Good luck with whatever route you choose. -

Mytai's website for downloads
Doghouse replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sag, I've had the same problem for a VERY long time with his site too. I do have the VMFA-312 LoVis Skin I got from his site a couple years ago and would be happy to send it to you. Just say the word. It's certainely a shame his site is down, he had some really nice skins posted. -
PhotoReal Terrains Available NOW at RAZBAM
Doghouse replied to Edward's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Oh yes, they do look nice. And I have to appreciate the effort that went into these terrains. But the link, you forgot the link. First rule of marketing, you get someone's attention, you don't let em slip away. You forget to supply the link to get these thing, I'm likely to forget to come back to get the link after reminding you of this. -
Crab_02's F-6 Add-on
Doghouse replied to TurtleHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I believe the aircraft in question is the Chinese produced MiG-19, the Shenyang F-6. Try looking in the Addon Aircraft\MiG-19 section. That's where I got mine. :-) -
Some people ARE playing First Eagles in the Strike Fighters Project 1 area of Hyperlobby. Just rename the exe file that starts FE to Flightsim.exe and point Hyperlobby to it when you enter. That should work for you. Please tag your game as a First Eagles game so the Strike Fighters guys won't accidently enter. Another option is to play it through hamachi lobby. Good luck.

Randomizer Mod
Doghouse replied to GhostDog's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
It would be really nice, when you post things such as this, that you mention what sim you are talking about. Is this for LOMAC? Strike Fighters? Panty Raider? Crimson Skies? Sim Farm? C'mon guys, make your posts make sense! -
Which Flight Sim Should I Get 1st
Doghouse replied to firehawkordy's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
If you want a good civilian flight sim, the hands down winner is X-Plane version 7. Just make sure you get the whole 8 CD set. MSFS series has nice eye candy, but if you want more realistic flight and weather modeling, the ability to not only fly on earth, but in space and on Mars, then there is only one choice. Plus, X-Plane has the ability to design and test aircraft designs before they go into production. (There are actual airplanes out there flying that got their start on X-Plane.) Sorry if I mucked you your choices, but the world doesn't revolve around Microsoft. X-Plane is much more than a flight sim though, it's an aviation tool. You better plan on 20 gigs of hard drive space minimum for this puppy, I'd suggest 40 gigs.
