  1. TrackIR Q ...

Has anyone used the new TrackIR5 with OFF? If so, could you comment on comparing the versions 3 & 4 to it, or either one, if you have had an old one before. Just curious to see if its worth the new model. Cheers, WF2
  2. Check it out. Really nice build and good detailed drawings and pictures: Be2b Build Enjoy, WF2
  3. Sounds like a fantastic idea! You may what to do a Beta test with a few here to find the right " between the two" DM's as you stated Fortiesboy. Then, with permission from OBD, to offer this in a DM mod download package. May what to setup a thread, just for this Testing and comments within the test group. I do like the effects show and the "threshold values" in the posted pictures by Herr Prop-Wasche, looks pretty real. Just a suggestion, cheers. WF2
  4. Quite a Lady!

Yes, she was indeed and all the other women in the services and in public life that flew. I did get a chance to talk with Louise Thaden's son, William (Bill), here in NH for a few days. We went through family photo albums and documents of her life for a display in an aviation museum I was part of, well started. Another very interesting women. Thanks for posting this UK_W. Cheers, WF2
  5. In memory of Reinhold Platz...

Reinhold Platz (16 January 1886 – 15 September 1966) was a German aircraft designer and manufacturer in service of the Dutch company Fokker. Platz was hired by Fokker in 1912 as a welder. His first hands-on projects were to weld the frame parts for the Fokker Spin. Platz became the head designer at the Fokker factory in Schwerin in 1916. Platz had no higher education, like Anthony Fokker, he was a man of practice. This turned the two men into a strong team, where Platz was able to bring forth new revolutionary ideas to aircraft design, while Anthony Fokker implemented them in prototype aircraft. Platz became the head designer at the Fokker factory in Amsterdam after World War I. Platz was born in Cottbus and died in Ahrensburg. Note: There are some controversial points of view. it has been suggested that Platz was merely the foreman of the welding unit at Fokker, and that his status was raised in Weyl's book in an effort to denigrate Anthony Fokker's design achievements. The truth probably lies somewhere in between. . . WF2 BTW, what plane is that in the picture above? ...... LOL!

  8. Morane Saulnier Update ....

Yes, its the way they uploaded it. The noise, the smell from the burnt Castor oil and gas must have been something to experience in that building during the engine run-up ..... Ooooo what fun! Should be ready to fly shortly. Cheers, WF2

A Slide-Slip is use to descend quickly or to loose altitude with minimum forward travel such as in a high obstacle approach into a short field. A Forward-Slip is used to compensate for crosswind. This technique uses aileron only so the nose will point off center-line some. There is also a Wing-Down technique used in crosswind conditions which is preferred. In which you keep the nose pointed straight down the runway using aileron and rudder, landing, if need be, on one wheel. Wing-Down technique keeps you from what happens in a Forward-Slip when transitioning from the forward-slip to kicking the plane straight to line up with the center of the runway. At the point of flaring to land, what happens is the plane will drift sideways off the runway center-line and the crosswind will lift the wind-side wing. Usually used by light aircraft. Enjoy, WF2
  10. Sideslips

Great to see you back Speedski! Yea, the old forward, slide slip posting, comes once every full moon! .... LOL. Cheers, WF2
  11. Sideslips

Just for reference, Side-slip vs. Forward-slip. Good topic! Cheers, WF2
  12. I know what your saying, I have been here from the very start of OFF, it was only a suggestion. Looks like I may have to learn to model one myself ..... LOL! Cheers, WF2
  13. Just my 2-cents here. I remember the OFF team having a few aircraft started, I would like to see them finished, no matter what type they are, then to start new ones at this point. Of course only if there is less work to do so then to start one from scratch. Then maybe the OFF team could make a list of aircraft they feel should be next, kind of fulling the voids. They could then post a poll and have us vote on which ones we would like, setting up a build order. This way it would give everyone a direction and something to look forward to. Another thought here would be, is to build the new planes in order of development and year in service, that would work too. Cheers, WF2
  14. Here is an up and coming company that produces the most highly detailed and accurate plastic WW-1 models I have ever seen. Check it out here: Wingnut Wings

  16. If your interested in ......

Here is a short post on the Aerodrome site about the Swirl Pattern used on the Austrian Hungarian aircraft. If you do a search there are a few more. Enjoy, WF2
  17. Yes, I agree, I think your missing a few like this one ...... see below. Looking good. LOL, WF2
  18. in the future released

One idea to get more planes, modelers involved, maybe offer the " purchase a plane" route, as the other sim is doing. A percentage can go to BH&H and to the modeler. Of course I would suggest that all the planes must be reviewed by the OFF team to insure the quality that is now present in BH&H. The OFF team could also setup guidelines and specifications to follow for the development of planes for the modelers. I am not suggesting that OFF fix or work on 2rd party planes that are submitted, just monitor the QC. Any change would be the modelers responsibility, maybe come up with an install code for them too, to keep them proprietary? All the add-on planes approved would then be available on the OFF web site for purchase and download. This is just a suggestion. Cheers, WF2
  19. Looks like I need to purchase a new one. What would you guys and gals recommend for a replacement Joystick with Force Feedback? I do like the feel of the plane and gun fire in the stick specially with BHaH. Any recommendations? Cheers, WF2
  20. OT Swine Flu

How the Swine Flu really got started. Enjoy, WF2
  21. This is great and so very sad at the same time. I think as humans we need to feel a since of presents with family, friends and loved ones. We need to feel they are here, wither at home or a marked grave, we need to know where, its a feeling we need. It helps us to remember them an adds a purpose for our own life. Its a group bond we have had primitively from the beginning of time when we existed. I know for myself, that it comforts me to know that my loved ones where put to rest and their presents are still part of this world. Thanks for sharing this, sobering story. WF2
  22. A Logitech Wingman Force 3D ... like it but, was wondering if there was a better quality one out now. Cheers, WF2

  24. Awesome Dr.1 in air video ...

Full size .... smaller then you think they were. Where was I ..... in Paris on a concert tour. What am I doing, some Beta testing. WF2
  25. I have to disagree, it is not better to wheel land the Dr.I in RL. The best approach is to 3-point it in and dig in the tail skid, you want to slow down and stop her as fast as possible. Cross wind had nothing to do with the tip skids. The wing tip skids are due to the high CG the plane has. These planes operated from unimproved fields, they could ground loop easy from hitting a rut or wind gust, matter of fact they all did, but the DR.I's high CG made it worse. So they are there to help protect the lower wing. The plane will also tilt some when taxing and rub a wing tip too, is has a tendency to rock from one side to the other. WF2
