  1. OT: Inbound !

Congratulations Bagger!! I've just been told that I am to be a Great-Grandfather in May or June. I didn't think I was old enough. Tony
  2. HAT IN THE RING! : Web update

OOOH, I think I just wet myself ! ! ! One quick question though. Will this be available for purchase as a DVD for those who do not have hi-speed internet. Sorry if this was answered in the announcement, but I may have missed it in my excitement. Tony
  3. OT What Job do you do?

Shred you can always run it by hand until you get the proper equipment As for me I spent 10 yrs in the Canadian Armed Forces. Then I worked as a Video Tape Editor for the CBC for 5 yrs. Then spent 6 yrs as a machine repair in a tool & die shop. The last 30 yrs I spent as an Electrical Operator, That is I managed the high voltage electrical distribution system in a safe, reliable, & economic manner. I finally had enough of the stress and shiftwork and retired last July. I also manage to umpire about 150 ball games a year up to the university level. And for the past 3 months I have taken a part time position in a mom & pop computer operation. I also enjoy woodworking in my spare time. CJ I also admire you. Tony

  6. Helicopters in WWI

I remember seeing this on the television and IIRC the main reason it was never used was because it was so unstable and almost impossible to control. Can you imagine the pilot having to get out in an emergency!!! He would quite literally be chopped liver. Tony
  7. Mossyface

Olham: If you type in "Mossyface wood" with the quotes, you will get a different set of meanings. Even this thread is mentioned. Tony

I needed a nick for RB3D, and after a few minutes I saw a picture of a Typhoon fighter bomber on the wall and "voila" it has been that ever since. Tony
  13. What Does Your Cockpit Look Like?

Here's my temp playplace. I have an Aker-Barnes Cockpit built but at the moment it is disassembled in my basement waiting for the man-cave to be finished. Tony

Great news WM As an aside, I retired today is there a seniors discount offered? Tony
  15. WOW!! I attended the "RED BULL" air races today. I couldn't believe the agility of these planes and the G forces the pilots endure. Here are a some pics. Then there was th Red Bull Helicopter in a rather unusual attitude, I was impressed. Tony
  16. I don't think they were flare cartridges. That would have been quite a stretch for the observer to reach them. I think they would have been closer if they were to be reached by him. Just my take on it. Tony On second thought this doesn't look right, something about the lighting seems wrong. The shadow of the elevator is up onto the fusilage. The light source should be from above not below. Maybe they used a flash?
  17. What do you think this is ?

Bomb release, Beer taps. I don't think so. These handles release 3 types of hair styling products. Brylcream, Briliantine, & Grecian Formula. I mean look at that guys hair. Tony
  18. Shred on detached duty

Shred: Have a good trip. Oddly enough the guy sitting across from me in the control room is from Calgary and he knows the "Bighorn Dam" We work for an electrical utility as operators. We don't have any Hydroelectric stations here, but I used to operate one that was built in 1914 originally to supply hydro for shipbuilding on Georgian Bay during WW1. Oddly enough it has the highest head of any plant east of the Rockies @ 539 feet Tony

  21. maintainence?

I was kind of worried after what happened to AVSIM. I had a couple of Emails asking about it. Tony
  22. good news and bad news

Creaghorn: I feel your pain. That is in the fact that I feel like I let my team down. I had knee surgery in Jan and it is not right yet. The surgeon said it had to do with the arthritis and that I will need a replacement in a year. If I understand correctly you are a catcher. I wore the tools of ignorance for many years right up to the Sr. A level. I have the crooked fingers to prove it. Then I started to have eyesight problems so I turned to umpiring I played my last game in 1986 when I was I was 48 yrs old. Then I went to umping full time. Big catchers are my friends I like to hide behind them. I still ump for the little ones and train the younger guys. I will try to work myself back up as the season progresses, but every time I move the wrong way it hurts like hell and I lose my concentration which is not fair to the players. I love the game and will probably always stay close to it. As for letting down my team, it is the guys in my association that I consider my team. Hope you get through this little setback quickly. Tony
  23. Dual in the Clouds

WM: Hmm... I thought that was the top of the upper wing. It's still a bloody good effort though. Tony

  25. PRESS RELEASE: AVSIM Hacked Tom Allensworth, CEO and Publisher of AVSIM, today issued the following announcement; “We regret to inform the flight simulation community that on Tuesday, May 12, AVSIM was hacked and effectively destroyed. The method of the hack makes recovery difficult, if not impossible, to recover from. Both servers, that is the library / email and web site / forum servers were attacked. AVSIM is totally offline at this time and we expect to be so for some time to come. We are not able to predict when we will be back online, if we can come back at all. We will post more news as we are able to in the coming days and weeks. We have set up a temporary forum in order that we can provide status reports on our efforts to bring AVSIM back online. The temporary link is: http://linux.myalbemarle.org/forums/index.php Tony
