New Screen Shots For DCS: A-10 Warthog
ktickner6767 replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I purchased the early BETA of this sim. The eye candy is outstanding but, I must admit the complexity is a turn off for me. I have no desire to push every button inside the cockpit. If I wanted that kind of realism I'll fly a real aircraft. Even though it is only a Cesna 172 Skyhawk. LOL! With that being said, I would love to have this kind of graphic detail inside a game like Thirdwire's Strike Fighters. I love the Thirdwire series because it let's me get into a number of different aircraft, fly and blow up stuff very quickly. Setting on the ramp and taking 15 minutes to start the aircraft's engines in a game is ridiculous. This is ONLY my opinion and preference. By no means is this statement meant to place A-10C Warthog in a negative light. It is a fantastic piece of software. Just not my thing. Although, I'm still looking forward to the final product. I must admit I'm still very confused about the whole BETA purchasing experience. I'm not sure if I get the final product for free or if I still have to purchase it once it comes out in retail form. And trying to get each BETA update has been very confusing and difficult as well. I stopped at BETA 2. I believe it is up to BETA 4 now in mid February 2011. I would have liked to have seen an automatic update of the software inside the game itself instead of having to go to web page and physically download the individual BETA updates. -
Help installing Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2
ktickner6767 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I've never been very good with modding my Thirdwire games but, I struggle through and sometimes I get lucky and something actually works. For instance, after many attempts, I finally got the NATO FIGHTERS 4 mod to work for my Strike Fighters 2 Europe game. However, this is my dilemma now. I just purchased the new Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2 and I am having a very difficult time getting it to install. Can I not have the NATO 4 mod installed in order for this new expansion pack to work? I would hate to have to remove the NATO FIGHTERS 4 mod after so many hours spent trying to get it to work. However, if that is the case I will remove it in order to use the new Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2 that I purchased. Or perhaps I also need Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 1 in order for Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2 to work? I even tried to create a second "vanilla" install of Strike Fighters 2 Europe and apply the new Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2 to that "vanilla" install but, it did not work. When I launched the game it was still showing that I had the Nato Fighters 4 mod applied to the game. I don't know why that would be happening since I installed a fresh new copy of Strike Fighters 2 Europe and did NOT apply the Nato Fighters 4 to that new install of Strike Fighters 2 Europe. Can someone help me out with some advice or direction? As you can see, I'm very confused. Thanks! -

Thanks guys... much appreciated guidance! After investigating further I discovered to my amazement that the "Add On" is actually a stand alone product or game! It had never occurred to me to look inside the installation folder of Strike Fighters 2 Europe for the Strike Fighters 2 Europe Exp2! I was assuming that this "add on" would appear inside my Strike Fighters 2 Europe game. I was only clicking on the shortcut icon on my desktop for Strike Fighters 2 Europe and expecting to find the new aircraft and campaigns inside the Strike Fighters 2 Europe game! I was extremely confused between the definition of an "Add-On" and a "Mod". I think I understand now that an "Add-On" is a separate .exe file that simply requires the larger Strike Fighters 2 Europe full game to operate. That is why it is located in that folder? Wow! This was really difficult for me to wrap my mind around. I think all is well now though. I also see that the Strike Fighters 2 Europe Exp2 has created a "mod" folder in my "saved games" folder under my user name so, I should be able to add all of the effects I love, such as clouds, terrain and explosions. Please correct me guys if I'm mistaken in my assumptions here. Thanks! -

Hi everyone! I am desperately seeking better looking "skins" for Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. There used to be a fantastic site called "Gamers Tools" that was excellent but, their site is now down. After an exhaustive search I finally found a cool site with some beautiful skins for Falcon 4.0 Allied Force along with many for Free Falcon as well if you are interested. The web site is located here: http://www.janhas.net/. The only problem is there is NO INSTALLER FOR THESE SKINS! They appear to require some kind of "LOD editor", what ever that is. I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure it out but, through my hands up in frustration and said forget it! Are there any web sites you guys know of that have some high quality skins for Falcon 4.0 Allied Force that do not require a PHD in computer science to install the skins! Thanks.

War for Isreal instructions question
ktickner6767 replied to LouG's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Kevin! Your Classified Mission Instructions for installation were very well written and very easy to understand. Out-Freaking-Standing-Job! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you! Why can't all mods be that easy to install and to get working? I enjoyed the mission very much because I am very familiar with the "story" ;) Being a HUGE "S.T" fan! LOL! However, it is a little too difficult for my skill set and after playing the mission 3 different times I was unable to complete the mission successfully. Unfortunately, there was no way in this mission to change the difficulty level to an easier mode. At least I couldn't find one. But, thank you for building an outstanding mission with even more stellar instructions to get it working quickly. As far as the "1950s Korea Mod" goes... OMG! Where? When? How? I have been waiting YEARS for a 1950's Korea flight sim. The F-86 is my favorite military fighter jet aircraft of ALL Time and it is very unfortunate that it is no where to be found in Third wire sim games. How close are you guys to completing this mod? -

Thanks. I worked on this problem for about two hours last night but, I have to throw in the towel and call it quits. It is just too difficult to get to work. I removed it from my hard drive. Besides, it is not really what I wanted. I have been desperately seeking a 1950's era Korean War flight sim for almost a decade but, no one has chosen to create one. I've seen a few mods on the internet for other games but, they require even more code magic and messing around with .ini files and .cat files and the like. NO THANK YOU! Just give me a game I can pay money for and it works. That's all I ask. I am not familiar with your work Kevin, can you point me towards some of your mods? I'm anxious to see if I can get them to work without a hassle. Thanks! -

THANK YOU Fast Cargo! Your instructions are excellent. I wish they were included with the every mod. Most instructions to get these wonderful and beautiful modifications for Third Wire games to work lack excellent instructions, in my humble opinion and that is the only thing I find so difficult about them. After trial and error for most of the night I finally got the mod to work, sort of. I'm still having issues. I had a very difficult time getting the new menu screens and music to appear. The instructions are little misleading. It states: Open the "StrikeFighters2 Modern Warfare Korea.ini" file and add this or Change it to, at the bottom: [Module] ModuleDataFile=ModuleMWKorea.cat DefaultTerrainData=Korea DefaultAircraft=F-15C So, which is it? Do I add to or change it? So, I chose to add to the .ini file, when in fact you must REPLACE what is there. AND... the DefaultAircraft=F-15C WOULD NOT WORK FOR ME. The game simply crashes. After more trial and error, I had to change it to F-15E to get the game to work. So, ALMOST everything is working except there AREN'T ANY AIRPORTS! Is that on purpose? Very confusing. It has been a real struggle to get this mod to work. -
War for Isreal instructions question

What? I'm sorry. I do not understand. I copied the entire Strike Fighters2 Israel Folder with everything inside it. And then renamed the folder, the .exe inside that folder and the options .ini in that folder as well. Then I double clicked on that renamed .exe file to create the new mode folder and proceeded to drop all the new files inside that new mode folder that was created for the War for Israel mod. But, nothing works as I stated before. Can I not copy the entire folder and all it's contents? Do I have to perform a complete new install and then rename it? I'm trying to do this in Windows 7. Is this my problem also? -

I'm having a very similar problem getting this to work also. It is very frustrating. I have been trying to get this mod to work for weeks without success. When I double click the .exe file I still get the Strike Fighters 2 Israel image and not the new image or music. And when I click on single mission or instant action, the game freezes. I have followed all the directions in the read me file to the "T". What am I doing wrong? Is it wrong that I copied the already existing Strike Fighters2 Israel game and then renamed it to Strike Fighters2 War for Israel? -

I Started Using Windows 7 Today... where are the mod folders??? I've been using XP now for almost 9 years and I finally decided to make the plunge and start using Windows 7. HELP ME! I'M LOST!....I'm desperately trying to find the mod folder locations in Windows 7. It is so totally different than XP. I'm not enjoying this change so far. Can someone please point me to a forum post regarding this issue? I've been searching all afternoon for topics in the forum with "Windows 7 mod folder locations" in the title without any success. I want my mods back please. Thank you for your help. -

Well, I chose the ATI Radeon HD 5670 instead of the Nvidia card. The ATI card was on sale for $74 after a $20 mail in rebate. What a world of difference! I can now choose the unlimited settings in the game with out a visible loss in frames per second. Thank you for the advice. The ATI card I chose has 1GB of DDR5 ram on board the GPU. WOW!!! The lighting effects are out of this world! I'm a very happy virtual pilot now. -
ATI or Nvidia?

I just switched to an ATI Radeon HD 5670 with superb results in SF2. However, I have had good results with Nvidao cards also in the past. The ATI 5670 just came down to $74 with a $20 mail in rebate. I assume because the new 6XXX series card will be available soon. -

Thanks guys! I'm going to run out and pick up an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT card. I hope that will solve some problems.
