  1. - "Sparko> It's just we have nothing better to do and positively love seriously arguing about something so trivial (especially since changing a name is one of the easiest change there is)." whoa...that is the most honest answer I have ever read...thanks!
  2. - I am rather entertained by how this thread has been viewed over 1,300 times...way more interest in making up a name for an imaginary airplane than I ever thought...
  3. Wait...what is wrong with Badminton...we are doing quite well this year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africa_Badminton_Federation
  4. - So...you were shot down by FOD from the Ramptor? Damn...that is lethal...
  5. What is wrong with the USAF?

They are far from perfect, but we had some at al Taqaddum...ran around the countryside in the back of an M1151 with the little buggers in 128F heat...worked fine...no way an HP is going to do that...but I d agree...replacing T.O is a bad idea, period
  6. well...we finally did it...weighed it down with ABF...
  7. It is beautiful! Hey, is there any way to make that from AI-only to...you know...
  8. - That's it! Good work...I always like that line...
  9. I routinely make multiple editions...rather than just updating one I get to a certain point and then make a new one as in stealth1...then stealth1a...that way you can experiment also down a path and if it doesnt work, just return to an earlier "edition" Just a thought
  10. - "Hey, aren't you the 'Not a pound for air to ground' guy? What didya use...harsh language?" - You know me too well..."Guns guns guns!"...
  11. -"puma"...you made that up...you have any other mythical creatures you want to add to the list * * can anybody name that quote?
  12. What is wrong with the USAF?

    - Think of the John Wayne movies...Olds LIVED them...period... - Jug is exactly right, he was a warrior, period...12 kills in WWII...begged to go to Korea...went to Viet Nam and was an instant legend...not only that...he actually passed on kills because they were going to pull him out if he got 5 kills in SEA (he had 4, total being 16 confirmed kills)...so he avoided further personal glory in order to stay and lead his men... - After his tour in Viet Nam he was pulled in to other jobs...he was asked by none other than the CSAF how to "fix" the miserable USAF kill to loss ratio of 1 to 1...especially while the USN was doing fantastic after the establishment of TOP GUN...Olds volunteered to take a reduction in rank in order to go fly and fight again...at a time when so many "top leaders" were enjoying the war in Hawaii, Olds tried desperately to get back into the fight - He was also told by the CSAF himself to shave off his mustache...he did NOT... - Oh, and a fellow by the name of "Hap" Arnold (Father of the USAF) pinned his wings on him when he graduated pilot training...not to shabby - He is still, as F/C says, a legend, especially among people more concerned about doing what is right versus doing what gets one promoted (and, for the uninitiated, those unfortunately are not the same things) - He was also a famous college football player...in fact in 1985 he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame...he was also enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame...only person so far to hold both honors
  13. Yeah, F/C can have his 10,000,000 Talon hours patch...mine says 232 CommBuildings...and that was a few years ago...
  14. screen shot of the month contest?

Hey, not that the forum moderators dont do a splendid performance of directing this place...but how about a little more democratic/formalized screen shot contest. As I guess that is what the screen shot of the month is supposed to be, a sort of contest given the opening thread. How about a set of rules, a defined time line of when one can post, and then each person can post only once to that thread (others removed). Then, after the end of the period, a sort of poll like thing is established and we vote? You know, an actual contest? Just a thought. Prize for winning? Easy, winning is its own reward.
  15. What is wrong with the USAF?

    - personally I love how we get treated like children as well...I mean the "decency restrictions" posted against AAFES printed material...and now some Congress-dude wants to ban on base gambling because "it destroys families"...really? So it is all perfectly fine to have Vegas and Atlantic City and "normal citizens" can destroy their own families all they choose but the military needs to be told what is "decent" to read and protected from gambling? Nice! - point being that no one enters the Service stupid to the fact there will be sacrifices...there will be time away and danger undertaken...copy...but there is a very great difference between self-generated issues and challenges beyond one's control...a leader's responsibility to mitigate the "poop" in order to allow the front line to focus on the front line... - let's address the CSUSAF and how he claimed that the 'tanker deal" was his number one priority on a number of occasions...yet he claimed to not have had any influence or knowledge of the process when Boeing won originally and the choice was then the center of great controversy...I am not him obviously but if I go on public record as something being my top priority, bet high that I have at least a modicum of understanding on what is going on with it. - that is not the only one either, let's address CSAR-X...same song, different verse...decision crushed by the GAO...nasty questions raised during testimony...again, Moseley "didnt know"...that had been his Number 2 priority...well if he was ignorant to his #1 and #2 priorities...what was he doing? Choosing the next Dress Blues? Wondering what to re-name AFI's? Figuring out how to re-organize the MAJCOMs? He is McPeak reborn, period...and we will be better when he is hopefully forced into the abyss But not all issues can be traced to him, certainly...it is a culture of vultures...and it needs refinement...it could be so much better, if senior leaders just followed what they preach/expect...it is a time of transition and re-constitution and great competition with the sister Services for money, no doubt and is time indeed for great leadership Yes, I volunteered...
  16. screen shot of the month contest?

    - so where were those calendars posted? I seemed to have missed them... - and April is not yet concluded...hey I mean that is an awesome shot and all...guess I dont understand the process
  17. Your Favorite Fish to Eat

No debate there...but....just for giggles...take her to an Applebees or Capt D's in OKC there...you will be afraid... I landed in a hospital with severe food poisoning from an Applebees...seems they failed to maintain correct temperatures...the ER doc told me he had seen so many cases of Salmonella poisoning lately it was scary...dont order the chicken either (I didnt have Salmonella, rather the cheese sauce was spoiled...nice! and totally preventable). I have dined in some rather suspect places in Thailand and eaten food that was not ready to give up yet...no illness...it all boils down to food preparation and cleanliness... Dont get me wrong, fish can be dangerous and NEVER eat fish that you can smell...kind of like something else... Used to live in Memphis...ask C5 about the Hepatitis rate from the restaurants there...it boils down to improper procedure and very poor hygiene of the "staff"...never figured out why people love to eat out so much in the States...saw this article on restaurant pricing...like Olive Garden charges $11.99 for a pasta salad that would only cost less than $0.78 if you made it yourself and that aint an award winning chef from Rome plying his trade back there...my ex was a drug/alcohol abuse counselor...only businesses that would routinely hire her clients were the chains (red lobster, applebees, outback)...not saying that there is anything wrong with those people, but who do you think cares more about the cleanliness and attention to food preparation details for your family? And dont think management cares either... When I was in Sierra Vista, the CDC came to town due to high number of food related illnesses...didnt know they were involved in such things...before they left, nearly every restaurant in town had lost both management and staff members for gross...GROSS...violations. They went to one of the hotel restaurants and pulled every single chicken dish off the shelf...2/5 were contaminated... Also, used to work for CCE (Coca Cola) and had to service the beverage dispensers as well as deliver supplies...meaning spending time in the back rooms and food preparation areas...HORRIFYING! Actually saw some one's underwear lying on a rack of cooked buns...guess they thought it was funny...it was disgusting...oh and beetles living in the soda fountain at an KFC...they are supposed to clean those things every single night to include bleaching the spigots...yeah if a few water beetles can take up residence what do you think? So, dont be like "oh, sushi is scary"...it can be, but then that burger could be carrying hepatitis...
  18. Shake it up baby, now!

did the Wabash River flow backwards?
  19. Beriev 2500

    awesome, good choice!
  20. What is wrong with the USAF?

I concur, the "you volunteered" is like some other very poor arguments that lead to heated debates...and dont forget, one cannot simply leave either, we all are under contract of some sort whether enlistment of ADSC that bars simply "walking away" But think about it...if the people that you want to defend your freedom leave, then who will watch the wire? People that cant get jobs? No frakkin' thanks... It is not that difficult to fix either, they have changed so many things, I mean, dont see any B-17 or P-36 on the ramp, eh? We can make it better, period. Just that the people that have the power do not care since it does not affect them. Look at some of our current processes, trimmed to bones due to losing 62,000 airmen in 4 years (during a war nonetheless)...it has NO impact on the 4-stars because annoying things like personnel and finance is handled completely different for them. Fiefdom is the word I believe...
  21. screen shot of the month contest?

Still like the poll idea, people's choice, vox a populi as it were...I mean...who won for March? I have no idea...
  22. piloting help needed!

also, at least with the AV-8B there is bleed air at four critical points (nose, wing tips, and tail) to help with "balance"...but by no means is this easy either there is a reason the older models were called "widow makers" in USMC service
  23. screen shot of the month contest?

    - exactly...and I concur with the no-editing stipulation as well. - and since some times people do not understand, it should be re-emphasized that you get one shot per month...multiple posting would be removed / moved - glad to see there is interest in this!
  24. Colleges

    - "this was one of the hardest decisions of my life" hehehe...dont worry, life gets more entertaining and gives more things to ponder...
