Is there any way to change the HUD color in the game? I'd like to make it brighter. Thanks, Sillius_Sodus -

Patches and NO CD
Sillius_Sodus replied to a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Jeez Indio i got a laugh out of your last post, I think I've done everything you described to my cd's at one time or another! There's got to be a better way to copy protect. I know music companies use something from a company called Musicrypt. It uses biometrics to protect music files that are distributed to radio stations. You activate a file by typing your name or something. It seems that people's typing styles are as individual as their fingerprints so you can use it to associate files to a certain person. You'd probably have to have Microsoft style activation of the software for the initial installation but then after that all you would have to is type in your signature to play. Could be it's been considered already but is lacking somehow. I'm no expert on copy protection. Good huntig, Sillius_Sodus -
Patches and NO CD
Sillius_Sodus replied to a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Hi, I was wondering, just how often do game cd's wear out? My music cd's never do and game cd's aren't accesed nearly as much. True, it reduces the risk of scratching but cd's are pretty scratch tolerant. Hell, I keep most of my music cd's loose (no case) in the glove compartment of my car and they work fine. When it comes to game cd's, by the time they might wear out, the game no longer runs on my current rig. Like you I buy my software and yes I miss the days of thick manuals and lower tech protection like code wheels or questions requiring the manual to answer. I can't believe that producing a good hardcopy manual is too expensive considering the amount of money that goes into game production. Besides, simmers that play the games on this site are so hard core, the game companies could probably recruit a few to write very high quality manuals for little cost. I know I'd pay a few extra bucks for a decent manual. Good Hunting, Sillius_Sodus -
Question about Korean War Mod
Sillius_Sodus posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm playing Edward's Korean War mod, great mod. I just have one question: when flying the Sabre, I find the pitch rate very sensitive. I was just wondering if this is normal for the Sabre or perhaps a joystick calibration issue. Thanks, Sillius_Sodus -

Thanks IndioBlack, I've already used the options page to adjust my joystick's deadzone and I've made some adjustments to the sensitivity. I'll play around some more and see what happens. Good hunting, Sillius_Sodus -
Getting add-on aircraft to work
Sillius_Sodus posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi, I'm having some trouble getting some add-on aircraft to work, specifically the B52G from combatace. I've unzipped the files to the aircraft directory but no joy, only ctd's. Also, some aircraft just don't show up on the aircraft list in single missions. I need the buff for the rolling thunder campaign. Thanks, Sillius_Sodus -
Getting add-on aircraft to work
Sillius_Sodus replied to Sillius_Sodus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi Fubar, I copied the B-52G files to a "clean" install (no campaigns, weapons packs, effects, sounds, etc, just a bunch of add-on aircraft which work). The buff works in single player now although the wingmen aircraft movement is very jittery, something also encountered with the flyable TU-16. Anyway, something in my modded version of SFP1 must be conflicting with it, causing the ctd's. Perhaps I need to have a seperate install for each campaign instead of having a mega-game. Time to get a bigger hard drive! Thanks again for all the help. Sillius_Sodus -
Getting add-on aircraft to work
Sillius_Sodus replied to Sillius_Sodus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've loaded the B-52G in an already fairly modified game. I'm wondering if some of the effects/sound/weapons mods are causing any conflict. I'll try loading the buff into a clean install and see how it goes, otherwise I'll try to post details of the installation here for troubleshooting. By the way my game is patched to 3.2 Sillius_Sodus -
Getting add-on aircraft to work
Sillius_Sodus replied to Sillius_Sodus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks again Fubar, I've encoutered that "folder within a folder" problem before. I usually avoid it by extracting files to a seperate folder then copying them manually. I've gone over the B52G component by component and there doesen't seem to be anything missing and said components seem to correspond to one in add-on aircraft that do work. More fiddling required I guess. Sillius_Sodus -
Question about Korean War Mod
Sillius_Sodus replied to Sillius_Sodus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Fubar, I should have said pitch rate, which can also affect the onset of the stall. Basically, it's hard in the Sabre to make small pitch corrections. This doesn't matter so much in cruise but makes close range aiming of weapons quite challenging, especially in A2A combat against a jinking opponent. Maybe I'll try a different Sabre add-on if one exists. Sillius_Sodus -
Trouble with Rolling Thunder campaign
Sillius_Sodus posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi, I'm having trouble with the Rolling Thunder campaign. The game crashes when the first three USAF squadrons are selected. In addition, the next two squadrons get random aircraft (B-57, A-1H, A-4) assigned at the start of the campaign and there doesen't seem to be any campaigns with the F-105. Finally, some of the required aircraft (according to the readme) are unavailable such as the A-7A and the A-1J. Don't get me wrong, for most of the squadrons the game works well and I really like the campaign. I realize how much work goes into making a campaign. Thanks, Sillius_Sodus
