  1. What difficulty settings?

Yes indeedy! Download and install Peter01's reworked FM's...Available here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=8064 Peter's currently updating and uploading most of 'em here on the forum. See thread titles; 'Updated FM's'. I suspect that once installed, your days of invincibility will be over.
  2. Updated FMs No5

Nice one, Christian! 24 and 27 to follow, n'est-ce pas?
  3. Updated FMs No3

I'd love to take the credit for the 'No Headrest' mod, but the plaudits all belong to P1oppy...See post No.12 here: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/32708-anybody-still-working-on-stuff/page__p__207377__hl__headrest__fromsearch__1entry207377 Sure wish he was still involved 'round here.
  4. New FE seasoned tiles released!

Completely and utterly MAGNIFICENT! You sir, are a genius.
  5. Gunnery in the Albatros and Fokker

In some plane's, like the Fokker Dr.I and the Nieuport 11 for instance, I think the sighting point is where the fuselage cross bracing meets...The middle of the 'X', if you know what I mean. Regards. Bucky
  6. Updated FMs No3

Yeah, as you say, I'm sure we've all got our favourites. ATM, mine has to be the Bristol Scout C, with the off-set fuselage mounted Lewis. It's great fun trying to get a bead on the early German two seaters using that. Y'know, I never noticed until recently what a great little model the Bristol is. Shape wise, it really is very accurate...All it needs to bring it up to spec is a decent skin or two (Are you listening, Quack? ) IMO though, anyone using it, should also do away with the ill fitting SPAD cockpit. The original, purpose built one looks much better. On the subject of FM's for specific plane variants: Apart from the one's already mentioned, here're a few others...Just suggestions, you understand: FE2d. Is it possible to get rid of the nose wheel for this version? SE5a with no headrest. Bristol F2b with and without the upper wing Lewis. All three Camels, but for historical accuracy, make the 110 Le Rhone Camel perform better than the 130 Clerget version. Becoming a proper pain in the jacksy 'aint I?
  7. Updated FMs No3

Y'see, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! ... The Nieuports all have that light 'n nimble feel. But push 'em too close to the edge (pulling up too fast from a dive, for example) and they'll fold up on you every time. The Dolphin, on the other hand feels solid. Heavy, yet somehow highly manoeuvrable all at the same time. Man, I gotta say: The way you capture the essential, historically recorded flight characteristics of each individual plane is just spooky! Just an enquiry: Any plans to release FM's for a British (Upper wing Lewis) Nieuport 17, and an early (fuselage side mounted lewis) Bristol Scout? All the best. Bucky
  8. Updated FMs No4

Can't speak for the German crates, Peter. It's been a while since I got in one of those. The Pup feels great though: Smooth, light, and responsive, just as it oughta. Superb skin too...It has, as its name suggests, just become my "default"...Thanks very much for that. Keep 'em coming! Bucky
  9. Advantages of FE2?

Same here, TS. A new PC is not high on my list of priority purchases right now...And besides, I kinda love my FE1 install just as it is...
  10. In answer to that question,...see post No.4: http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7352&sid=8d276d7b13e3480653378d475eb67b31
  11. Updated FMs No2

Shame that...Thanks for the confirmation though. Got it in one Bandy!...No TrackIR. I'm an old fashioned 'Padlock' kinda guy! But regardless of that, I'd still like to have a go in the SE5, sans Aldis. Some pilots had 'em removed, preferring the ring 'n bead. I have lowered the Aldis' magnification though. Cheers fellas. Bucky
  12. Updated FMs No2

I think we can all relate to that...Sometimes, halfway through editing some file or other, I totally forget what I'm in there for in the first place...So how you do what you do, sorting all those numbers to fine tune the FM's is like total black magic to me! Thanks again man, I'm really looking forward to the next batch. Oh incidentally, I've been trying to make another version of the SE5a, without the Aldis sight. The 'Mydummyweaponstation' trick doesn't seem to work...Do you think it can be done?
  13. Updated FMs No2

Excellent stuff, Peter! Fixing the DH4's nose heaviness and the Strutter's ineffective rudder are especially welcome changes. Just as a FYI: You have the DH4 engine sound as "RotaryEngine". "PropLoop" would be more suitable I think. What's up next?
  14. Don't get too excited...It's just a little mod of the cockpit.ini's, using the SE5a cockpit to replace the stock ones. IMO, the DH2 cockpit that comes with the DH4 is not quite appropiate, so I've had a go at putting the SE5's in its place. It's not perfect by any stretch: I've spent quite a bit of time fiddling with its exact placement up, down, fore and aft, trying to perfect the pilot view...The result is something of a compromise, but the best I can do. See what you think. If anyone can improve it, let me know, eh? The original F2b cockpit, whilst a pretty good effort, looked a little basic to me. So again, I used the SE5 as a replacement. This one is much more succesful. Somehow, after much experiment, I managed to shoehorn it in, AND get the pilot view just about exact...You can now see through the Aldis sight. The one thing I haven't been able to do in either of 'em is to animate the control sticks. Lord knows I've tried, but no go. Not exactly a massive showstopper though, seeing as they're not visible in most cockpit or padlock views. Again, if anyone can get the sticks moving, let us know how please. Cheers. 15. Morane Type L

Hi guys. Could someone please explain the process involved in deleting the Lewis gun on the 'Morane Saulnier Type L'? I want to put together a mission depicting the destruction of Zeppelin L37 by R.A.J. Warneford in June 1915. There's an excellent skin available of Warneford's MS Type L, but to be completely authentic the Lewis has to go...He brought the airship down with bombs. I just can't seem to get my head around that 'MyDummyWeaponStation' malarky... Thanks in advance. Bucky
  16. Morane Type L

Yeah, he's THE man too...No question. Too bad he doesn't stop by here anymore.
  17. Camels of No. 45 Squadron, Italy

Well to be fair, the game's Camel decal sets are pretty accurate, and depict most of the RFC Camel squadrons anyway, but a few more, especially the overall PC10 one's would be great.
  18. Camels of No. 45 Squadron, Italy

Cheers Quack...An excellent set. Surprisingly, I think these are the first RFC skins ever made for the Camel. All the others are for Naval Squadrons.
  19. Morane Type L

Hey, it works! Truly, you are THE man, Peter! Many thanks for the tuition. I think it's finally sunk in now...Well, till the next time anyway. Regards. Bucky
  20. Camels of No. 45 Squadron, Italy

Thanks for the thought, man. Other units with (mainly) overall PC10 Camels were 3 Sqn, 28 Sqn, 70 Sqn, and 13 (Naval) Sqn. Apart from the squadron marking, most of the above squadron's Camels looked almost identical to 45 Sqn...Let me know if/when you feel like doing a few more.
  21. Camels of No. 45 Squadron, Italy

Great stuff as usual, Quack! Just as a FYI, for those interested in historical accuracy. 45 Sqn used the same markings when based in France. So these skins can also be used on the western front up until 16th November 1917, which is when the squadron was withdrawn and moved to Italy. They came back to France in September '18.
  22. Eh?

Hey Peter! Welcome home old boy! Not just a passing visit I hope?
  23. Padlock sensitivity

Yeah, good question...The loss of padlock with not a cloud in sight can be really annoying. On a related note, the 'Padlock Nearest (Enemy) Target' button seems to be malfunctioning on my install. It padlocks enemy AND friendly aircraft. Anybody else get this?
  24. Jasta 11 Albatros D.III's

Yeah, it does seem quiet round here these days, but then again, there seems to be quite a few people reading but not posting. The 11 Sqn, F2b thread for instance, has had over 250 views since you started it five days ago...That 'aint so bad I s'pose. Anyway, back to your questions: No, I've never seen Schaefer's D.III with any yellow on it. I've seen photos of it with a black rear fuselage/tail, and factory finished grey nose and wheels, but I think it's generally believed that it eventually had the red nose and wheels. No, I think the whole tailplane was painted red, top 'n bottom. As I said, I reckon they were left in the standard factory finish, but that is just my personal view. Later!
  25. Jasta 11 Albatros D.III's

Yeah, so long as it has the centrally placed wing radiator, as opposed to the later version with the offset rad. Yep, that's a fair assumption. Safe to say, only if you believe that he had any D.III painted red overall including the wings...My personal opinion is that the overpainting of wings started with the D.V. But with no photos to go by, who's to say? Yeah, that's the one. Unfortunately, the serial number's unknown. Again, no one can say with any certainty the exact sequence or extent of the purple overpainting of Wolf's D.III. Some say it was overall purple in March/early April, others say it was partially purple at that time. All I can suggest is to do what Warlord did and include both versions so people can make their own choice. What I would say though, is that the purple/brown wings colour combo seems unlikely to me...Why?...Because it just looks bloody horrible!
