Vietnam 1984 1.1
TeTeT replied to MK2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I found that moving the StartDate to 1979 will enable the ground defenses again. Is there any easy way to postpone the retirement of the WoV ground defenses to 1985? Change to Campaigns\Vietnam 1984\WOVCAMPV1_DATA.INI: [CampaignData] ;StartDate=12/18/1984 StartDate=12/18/1979 StartDateDeviation=0 ForceWithInitiative=1 ... -
Vietnam 1984 1.1

Has anyone succeeded in getting this campaign running with the SP051506 and patch 083006? After using the correct weaponseditor the loadout seems fine, but there are no ground defenses but SAM launchers - which never shoot without their radars. The air war looks good, though. I updated 'EndYear' in options ini from 73 to 93. In single missions set in 73 I get ground defenses, but not in 84. -
adding non-flyable aircraft
TeTeT replied to grumpapotamus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Removing the cockpit folder or renaming the directory should do the trick. -
Absolutely. I don't have a quote at hand, but I think about the same number of aircraft were lost in accidents as in actual combat. So the occasional loss of a wingman by entering an unrecoverable spin might be quite realistic...

weapons problems
TeTeT replied to grumpapotamus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks :) I wrote a small perl script that checks for TypeName at the start of a line in the weaponsdata.ini. Thereafter the Aircraft_loadout.ini is checked for WeaponType and the information if this type is not found is printed. Besides numerous drop tanks I haven't installed properly, I discovered the following: RECONPOD: seems to be used by several planes TPLRCK: it's now XM1R Rocket Pod AA-?: use the R-? designation now Are the types case sensitive? If so, then there are quite a number of Mk82/MK82 and Mk83/MK83 problems. I guess that NationNames and attachment types can be checked in a similar way. Can anyone recommend a lib for Java or Perl that can parse ini files? Right now I use regular expressions ;) -
weapons problems
TeTeT replied to grumpapotamus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Is there a common footprint for the planes that need modification, like the presence of a certain line in an .ini? While fixing it automatically might be quite impossibly, at least auto-detecting the problem might be doable. -
Sorry, I was using the wrong word then: I talk about the orange squares with the white lower right corner, which seem to present paging. They seem to call 'view=getnewpost', like in this example URL: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=16031&view=getnewpost They work fine most of the time, but not always.

What should I get?
TeTeT replied to agrippa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As the games of the series share the same engine (or at least with latest updates applied), there's not much difference in modability. Especially to the policy by Thirdwire to patch all of them! However, some problems are: Terrain tiles: some terrain modifications rely on standard terrain of one game Aircraft: some add-on aircraft rely on standard aircraft of one game After gaining some experience in modding the game, both of them are solvable, but might require some work of you. For example, check the thread on the Israeli beta terrain and see the screenshot with the white landscape. The Israel terrain uses the SFP1 terrain and hence it won't work in WoE or WoV immediately. However, when you get an update to the desert terrain it will work. So no matter which game you choose, IMO you'll get a good package. -
Sometimes you even get a rocket engine to your monoplane :tomato2:

Israel 2 terrain
TeTeT replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I added the terrain to a merged WoV/WoE install and wonder what the objectlist.ini is specifying? Is it necessary to play scenarios on the terrain? Thanks a lot for that terrain! I've gotten more and more involved with this theater of operation and there is an emerging number of games on the near east conflicts. I'll use some screenshots of your terrain for my Elusive Victory blog :) -

Thanks for running the site, it's a great base for expanding the series! At times I find it hard to control myself from not downloading everything at once ;) -

Help with A6A computer aided release
TeTeT posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
After discovering the knowledge base at Bunyaps site, I tried to give the A-6A a computer aided weapon release like display. I moved the HUD over the now empty radar and removed all but bearing, radar alt and navigation info. The moving of the principal HUD display was done with changing BoresightOffset to 0.0,0.36. Unfortunately I was not able to influence the CCIP Falling Line completely to my liking: The Viewport coordinates seem to influence the boundaries of the CCIP line, but not sufficiently. I was not able to expand the viewport to all of the area of the radar display. Any ideas how to change that? Here's the HUD setting I use. [HUD] HUDColor=1.0,0.0,0.0,1.0 BoresightOffset=0.0,0.36 ;ViewportTopLeft=-0.125,-0.10 ;ViewportBottomRight=0.125,0.260 ViewportTopLeft=-0.1,0.45 ViewportBottomRight=0.1,2.0 unBoresightAngle=0.0 RocketBoresightAngle=0 Another problem I've encountered is the gunsight. It wanders all over the cockpit. Is there a way to restrict it's display to the radar itself? Here's how it is looking. The gunsight is the laser designator from the F-16: -

I had the same problem after installing the weapons pack and it disappeared after installing it again. I haven't tried to reproduce this behaviour, though. -

Which version of wings are you using? I had to change the airields in the ini file to get them usable in WoE. There is an excellent guide on installing 3rd party terrain in the kb here, which I followed. -

Have you tried the modification of flightengine.ini as described in the knowledgebase? Did wonders for me.

I just started reading Ed Rasimus second book 'Palace Cobra', dealing with his second Tour in a F-4E over North Vietnam in 72. He describes the precision of the system to be very high, much higher than traditional dive bombing. From his description I take that the WSO designated the target and the bombs would fall pretty close as long as the wings were level.
