  1. Is it possible for the good folks down at the Skunkworks to make an A-6 Intruder? I would love to do some CAS and strikes in it, and I imagine the 3-D cockpit would be incredably impressive.
  2. Yeah, the just the Iceland story would be good. I would love to see the tank battles in Germany, especially with the Hinds and Tornados.
  3. It seems, once we get all these nice new aircraft, the only thing left will be to add rice paddies, jungle, mountain karsks and a Rolling Thunder campaign. My only regret is that it will probably be impossible to add forest textures on par with Il-2.
  4. Can't wait for it. I just hope somebody figures out how to do more types of terrain in the same package.
  5. Man, AT-37 Dragonfly's rock. I never thought about adding those to SF!
  6. Saitek X-45

I've had some problems with my X-45 in XP. The drivers aren't fully supported by Saitek, but there are some 3rd part drivers available. Maybe its just me, cuz for a while I did have my X-45 working, and programmed, but then it went kaput. The stick worked, but I couldn't program it anymore. So.... in my opinion, the X-45 is pretty nice, especially for those sims that allow in program controller asignments, like Il-2. But, if you run XP, you may have trouble programming it. TOo bad they had to retro out the 45, though. I liked the military look of the 36.
  7. Is there any way to increase the numbers of tilesets in SF? Right now we have what, five? Water, desert, farmland, city, and mountain. Can you add to that amount in order to create a much more varied environement? Also, is it possible to create multiple transition tiles, so terrain no longer has that pixelated look when viewed from very high, or in the map?
  8. They should mix Hanukkah and Christmas. I mean make it a real mix of the two. Eight complete days of feasting and gift giving...... Sorry for being shallow :)
  9. Oh man, Denzil! You haven't read Without Remorse? If you loved Rainbow Six then you're in for a treat. John Clark is one bad-ass dude. As for a six hour Red Storm Rising? If they did it with a ten hour Band of Brothers (Which I just got done watching on VHS, again), then I certainly think WWIII deserves its own monolith of film. I can't understand how anybody doesn't enjoy good suspense / action / thriller novels. Unless they go in for actual history... In the words of Homer Simpson, "Ahh, the Luftwaffe. The Washington Generals of the History Channel."
  10. Can't wait for the patch to be released. I've been really disappointed with the F-100 so far. I'll be checking out this fix first though :). BTW, thats one advantage with having no trim. You don't get any asses assigning it to a slider for MP.
  11. I like the way SF doppler shifts the sound until its real close to an actual sonic boom.
  12. X45 installtilation

I haven't had problems installing it, just getting the configuration program to work. I downloaded the new beta drivers from Saitek's website, and the installed proplerly, and the stick works right in Control Panel, but I can't program it. Its too bad, really. It works fine for Il-2, and other sims that allow you to configure the stick in game, but for everything else....
  13. And remember, the higher your altitude, the lower the actual airspeed of sound. So, at 40,000 ft, you can be going much less than 675 knots and still break the barrier.
  14. Yes. More planes = Merry Christmas.
  15. Yeah, the F-100 is pretty bad. Anybody in a MiG outclasses it so bad its not even funny.
  16. I personally like the padlock system SF uses. I have the snap forward view set to my pinky switch, so in dogfights I can quick checks forward, then turn back to maintaining a visual with the target. Its a great system, and I certainly hope they don't change it.
  17. But, can you tell me how to do it? I want to add some SUU-23's to the O-1. Imagine the recoil,.
  18. Ripple count is the number of bombs that get dropped when you hold down the bomb release button. If you want to be sure you hit your target, you can set the ripple count to a higher number. Then, the plane will drop more bombs, at a spaced out interval. If you set the ripple to 6 and the interval (Another word with a fancy bombing meaning) to 140 ft., the plane drops 6 bombs, each 140 ft apart. Radar mode is a little harder to check. There are four main modes, Search, Boresight, Ground Map, and Terrain Avoidance. When you change radar modes, it should tell you the mode you set on the bottom of the screen. I'll let the other guys explain the best ways to check your radar mode.
  19. I wish they'd make a FF HOTAS. Like redo the Saitek X-36 with FF and rudder pedals, and USB. I would buy that in a heartbeat over the Cougar. For one thing, it probably wouldn't be $300 :D. Imagine, buffeting stick near the stall, feeling the hits in your rudder if you get shot at, or feeling it get slack all of a sudden when you stall, and finally, feeling the full range of detents on the stick for afterburner and such. I mean, how hard would it be to allow the user to program the FF for the throttle to allow for multiple detents? Then I could match up the 70% mark for SF.
  20. Obiously, since the new F-104 has AIM-7's, you know how to change loadouts. Is it easy to do? Can you describe how to do it to any plane?
  21. If you want to fly the Su-7 you need to update the ini file. The easiest thing to do, though, is to download the full aircraft from the site.
  22. P51, the best way to do it is just grab the entire fly-able plane from his site. They already have the new cockpits in them. I say new, but really he just replaced the bitmaps in each cockpit folder. Its really a great idea, because it completely changes the look of the cockpits.
  23. Who flies X-Plane?

I can't believe I've never seen this thread before. I've been using X-Plane since version 5.54, one and a half years ago. Now, with version 6.40, X-Plane is completely different. The combat version is not out yet, but part of it has been released in 6.40. I would definately suggest trying it out. You can't shoot anything, but you can mess around with adding weapons to aircraft and stuff. As to comparing FS2002 to X-Plane, well... it's hard to say one is better than the other. FS2002 has much better graphics, better AI, and better ATC, but X-Plane has the most realistic flight models of any sim out there, and is the easiest to create new aircraft. X-Plane is really more of an engineering tool, because it will model and aircraft in existance. In FS2002 you can make a toilet fly like a Cessna, but in X-Plane it'll fly like a toilet. I would suggest going to www.x-plane.org. It has the largest collection of aircraft, and the largest community using it's forums. As for me, I spend more time on X-Plane than anything else I've ever bought. Its just something about being able to make your own aircraft, or aircraft that have never been featured in any sim before. Before Strike Fighters, no sim had featured an A-4, so I made one in X-Plane. You can find it at the link above, if you like. Try doing that in MSF2002 without the ability to use 3D Studio MAX or GMax.
  24. Dagger, if that works, it will be a miracle. I would never have thought that two sims would use interchangeable terrain files. But, don't get me wrong, I want it to work!
