I'll admit, I wanna go aviation, preferably F/A-18's. But now, I won't be so disappointed if I get an ASW aviation slot, or go nuke or SWO with a destroyer.

I'll try and see if I can get a model worked out for you over the break, before I go back to the Citadel. I have some experience with the sim and I can probably make you an accurate model to test out. TO be honest though, if you look on x-plane.org for some of the better authors, or even email Austin Meyer about it, and tell him you guys are working on a new sim, I'm sure you'll find a host of people willing to help out.

Alright, you've sold me. You're right, Beer, I was thinking about the propagation loss. Just like using radar, I thought that passive had twice the range because it could hear the pings from farther than they would return to, so to speak. Now, question number two, what is it called when the sound, bouncing between thermal layers, allows you to hear it from specifically distanced rings around the sub. Convergence? Something like that? If I remember, I think it was like 20 knots out and 60 knots. I'll be honest, all my sub knowledge comes from Mr. Clancy, so I'm definately a beginner.

Yeah, I agree, the old Harrier model in the sim was pretty unstable. However, the latest versions of X-Plane allow you to model the Harrier with all four nozzles, everything. I don't think there is a current 7.xx model Harrier out there, but some kind soul at x-plane.org should probably be able to whip you up one.

Corner Speed
SDirickson replied to Sean_IRA's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
If I remember correctly, the F-16 does have a corner speed indicator that is displayed on the airspeed tape in the HUD. Now, I can't tell you about LO-MAC. I'm just saying some aircraft do have it. -
S_P, you might want to check out X-Plane, if you've never seen it already. Basically a one man show, it is the most realistic flight simulator you can find. www.x-plane.com

Sorry man, I thought the movie looked pretty gay. Never really was in to comic books though. Hell, I haven't even seen the X-Men movies.

I'm liking the new forum layout. And, I like being able to see the new news article links right there in the beginning, but I seem to remember liking the old style as well. Seems like the new one is a bit cluttered. Also, any chance of bringing back the part on the right of the main page that had the latest post in the latest five threads, with that nifty little fast reply thing? I like being able to open the main page and post in the pub.

To be honest, I'm glad you're simulating a terrain that is treeless. As good as Il-2 and LOMAC are, they aren't perfect yet. You guys will be able to replicate the Falklands much more accurately. And if the only shrubbery is clumps of bushes, maxing out a huge amount of low poly bushes shouldn't be hard, and provide a great sense of speed. Unfortunately, its gonna be much more important to have a high poly ground elevation map, so I hope your experimental system works as predicted.

Color me unoriginal, but its my name. If I had to have one though, it'd probably be Mule. Just irritates me when folks automatically assume my name is Samuel, when its just Sam. Really, check the certificate. Anyway, it ain't nice to call someone something with Mule in it, lol.

About the weapons and damage modelling, just how detailed do you think you will be able to get, realistically. I know we'd all love to see the intricate damage modelling like what the upcoming Battle of Britain is going to feature, but can we expect to see something like the current Il-2? Or is it back to hit boxes and health bars, lol.

Yeah, it is a damn shame that people think these boards are here to live a different life. I mean, sure they're welcome to do it, but not at the expense of others, and not here. Too bad FE isn't coming around to say anything.

Well, some of us are hoping it'll support a Cougar and those slick F-16 pedals with toebrakes. By the time the game gets released, maybe we'll be able to afford em as well.

Sounds like, if you're devoting as much time as you say to the sim, and you have that much dedication to games, it'll be a success. Just look at all the FPS's out there. The most popular were those developed by people who love games. Besides, those of us in the community will be able to tell the amount of effort involved, and will appreciate it all the more.

I would say that until the Vulcan becomes player controlable, it is a small thing to miss seeing it land and takeoff in exchange for the performance increase. I mean, you never hear of people asking for Guam to be modelled in a Vietnam sim, just for the sake of the B-52s.

Well, I can honestly say my first initial is S, and my last name follows. And as for the signature image, Delta Company '07, baby.

If this sim gets published with even half the features the team wants to add, I'll definately snatch it up. Its looking pretty good.

Lets see here, Dope and Rammstein for the modern fast movers. For all the vintage stuff, Golden Age aircraft, definately the Stones, CCR and Led Zepp. And Ride of the Valkyries for the Huey.

I'm not posting too often here anymore. Life at El Cid has its downfalls. Come to think of it, its hard to find perks very often, haha. Hard to play LOMAC with a mouse, too. And the clincher? Over X-Mas furlough, when I do get home to my X-45, I don't have my PC and have to live with an old 1.4ghz. No rest for the wicked, back to shining brass.

Wow, I reread my post and I sound uber depressed. Eh, this place needs more ninjas and cool stuff, I think.

Su-25 Article...
SDirickson replied to MrFrench's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I have to admit, the training missions for the Su-25 are pretty good. Not much about the weapons is is left uncovered. Then again, its a pretty simple aircraft. -
Can't Bomb But Can Shoot.......
SDirickson replied to Psychobabble's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Are you sure you're in the air to ground mode when you try and drop the bombs? I think '7' is the default key for it. Also, in the Russian aircraft you have to be within very well defined parameters to release ordinance. There's a lot more freedom in the American jets. -
Congratulations, definately a feat. Maybe they'll approve those shirts now?

I definately want to see it. I plan on flying the Su-25 more than any other aircraft. -
Got A Present From Ubisoft Today
SDirickson posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Turns out I'd already pre-ordered LO-MAC months ago, then promptly forgotten about it. Good thing it came today before I went out and bought it at Best Buy. Now, if only my Alienware wasn't sitting at the Citadel, all lonesome and unused while my X-45 sits at home connected to a PC that can barely run Lock On. Oh the irony.
