Yeah, tell me about it. I'm here, gonna bust my ass getting an electrical engineering degree, maybe even minor in comp sci while I'm at it, and I'll be lucky to pull a 3.2. But then, poli-sci and history majors can get an easy 4.0 and only take like 16 hours a semester to my 19 - 21. I don't mean to sound jealous, just I wish the Navy weighted choice of major more when determining your branching. I need that 3.2 to get a pilot slot. But, I'm grateful to the Navy. They're paying over $25,000 a year on my education. I definately couldn't afford to attend the Citadel without it. On a different note, anyone remember the old SNL skit about the Navy? It was like the old 70's and 80's commercials, except it just showed folks mopping and cleaning heads. The punchline was the commercial ending with the words, "The U.S. Navy. Its not just a job, its $96.75 a week." And then the classic Simpsons line, "While your friends are out for months at a time, risking their lives, you're 200 miles from the ocean, hosing off a statue in Lubbock. Where are you? The Naval Reserve."

Every cadet here that is a scholarship contract with the military has to wear a badge on their uniform. The Navy ROTC cadets are called "Blue Badges" cuz of the look of the badge. Well, one of the nice little traditions is that whenever an upperclassmen presses a knob's badge, they have to respond with some motivational yell. AFROTC its "Air Power!", AROTC and Marine NROTC both say something like "Kill, Kill, Kill!" Yeah, well, NROTC is a bit different. We have to say gay s**t like, "I love seamen", "Its only gay if its underway." etc... And me, well, my upperclassmen have me make up new ones every week. Favorite's so far: "Catapult me into Tom Cruise", "My thats a large landing craft you have." and "Me mainsail's been jibbed." Funny, but they really do s**t on the Navy here in relation to the other branches.

Anybody but me having a problem logging in their character? All I get is a password incorrect notification, when I know I entered the correct one. COuld it be a problem of my firewall prohibiting the connection?

Well, I submitted it as a news item a day ago, but evidently it got lost somewhere in hyperspace. Oleg and UbiSoft released a beta of FB 1.2. Its pretty rough, and only has a token few of the new aircraft, but it does contain all new maps as well. I recommend trying it out. You can find the link in the general forum at il2sturmovik.com. Its not a small download, so be prepared.

W00t, there it goes.

The Ants Are Chewin Thru My Pants...

You dont have to wait too much longer, PC. They released a beta version of patch 1.2. Just go to the general forums at il2sturmovik.com and you can find it. -
I've been playing around with the .ini file for Strike Fighters, trying to get my mouse to function as a joystick, preferably like in X-Plane or LO-MAC. I'd really appreciate it if someone more familiar with SF can take a look at it, maybe figure out how to do it. So far, the control surfaces only move when the mouse is moving, whereas in X-Plane or LO-MAC, the control surfaces deflect proportional to how far the mouse moves from a center location. I'll really appreciate any help I can get.

Help Please
SDirickson replied to SDirickson's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Alright, there's nobody here who's fiddled with mouse control? Or anybody that can try? -
OK, gonna try my best. #1. F-3 Demon #2. RA-5 Vigilante #3. A-3 Skywarrior #4. F-11 Tiger

An opportunity to fly a harrier would be awesome. I keep hoping some developer will pick a title and just make some killer addons for it, rather than a whole new sim. The graphics of LO-MAC'll be good enough for a couple years, and in that time imagine the host of additions and aircraft than can be added.

Anybody heard about the heat issues the new drivers have raised? Some people are claiming the drivers raise the heat on the card by over 10 degrees.

Dude, when I said sick stuff I wasn't talking about gay s**t. That definately DOES NOT happen here. Like the guys says in Office Space, "No, I think a man'd get his ass kicked if he said something like that."

Sometime I should tell you guys about some of the crazy s**t that goes on here at El Cid.

As a cadet at the Citadel, you can definately see the South as a way of life. I'm exposed to it every waking moment. We have to memorize countless facts and trivia about the War. But thats not the reason I came here. To tell you the truth, I have absolutely no interest in the War, I don't think the South should feel oblgiated to continue it's split with the rest of the nation. I almost feel embarrased sometimes. I call myself a Texan, not a Southerner. Nor do I feel that Texas is part of the South. However, after all that, I can understand how folks here in SC still wanna fly their flag, etc... Personnaly, I feel its a matter of freedom and respect for others. As to the african americans, I can understand their feelings when they see a redneck in a pickup with a big rebel flag. Its the same as when I walk through a bad inner city neighborhood. Or if, back at high school, I saw a group of blacks wearing 'Kill Whitey' shirts. So, I'm not against the flag, or peopls feelings, but I am against the fear and apprehension it can cause. And I am absolutely against institutions forcing such action upon it's members.

Mouse Controls
SDirickson posted a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Anybody know how to get the mouse to be recognized as the stick instead of head panning? I don't have a stick here at El Cid, so I'd like to use the mouse. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get it to work. -

Haha, maybe to get me to buy a stick? Well, I already have one, I just can't use it here at El Cid. -
Lomac Demo Discussion Thread
SDirickson replied to MadJeff's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
You might need to upgrade your DirectX and your video card drivers. Normally, new drivers can add some fps. Also, it is definately a combination of different changes that give you the best fps, not just setting it to 'Low'. Just to give you an idea, my brand new Alienware PC can bog down over major cities and during heavy action, even on 'Medium' and 'Low'. -
One complaint. I get page expired errors when I hit the back button in the new forum, something that didn't happen on the old. My only complaint. Looking forward to the new color scheme.

All I can say is, "Holy s**t!" I can't believe they're releasing a new version of Falcon 4.0. Thats totally awesome. And kinda disturbing, considering I hadn't heard a word of it till now.

Lock-on Screenshots
SDirickson replied to CowboyTodd41's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Damnit man. They had to release this while I'm stuck here at El Cid, my X-45 safely packed away at home in Houston. -
Anybody have approximately 15 kb of space I can use to host a signature image? Thanks
-
So, MJ, mind spelling out some of the advantages to the new forum? I have to say, its lookin' promising.

Whoa, looking great! Nice to see some actual elevation change in the sim now.

Amen brother. I'm not paying 15+ bucks for a CD. I mean, hell, the actual CD doesn't even cost a buck, and the artists themselves make uber bucks, more than I think they really deserve. As for the record companies, same for them. Too bad the idea for a pay-per-month Napster service never took hold. I'd certainly pay for something like that.

I was supposed to be at school but instead was sick at home. I remember being woekn up by a call from my mom, then rushing down to turn on CNN in my skivvies. I watched the entire thing, all day.
