How to enlarge the HUD

Recommended Posts

S! all.

Just starting out with EAW. Still mapping out the joystick, reading the manual and practising in Single Mission. I am running the
GOG version. Have experience with RB3D, Third Wire, Rise of Flight, etc.

After 20 years decided to upgrade to the WW2 experience and dusted off the EAW disk. Enjoyable, huge learning curve, but entertaining.

The most demanding question I have so far is: can I enlarge the fonts for the HUD info? It may not help that I currently have a 14cm laptop screen, but I have great trouble squinting at the pica 10 lettering and numbers while trying to take note of the directions from Starlight Command.

I'd certainly be grateful for any advice, before I head off to invest in reading glasses or braille or something.

Almost forgot,

If you have v1.28 then my large font is probably already in and you won't see much difference. For that version I think you can change it's size in the EAW.INI if I remember correctly.

Many thanks VonBeerhofen. Your tiny font files worked perfectly. Very much appreciated.

Tonight I will edit the screen size to 800x600...I just can't resist fiddling with things.

OK my AAR, for those interested in crazily minute details and just for the record.

After trying VonBeerhofen's 'LargeFont files I started fiddling and measuring.

The original GOG version displayed the unadorned hud details, Altitude/Speed/Heading, in a compact unit measuring 4.5mm in height at the 1024x768 setting.

The LargeFont files increased the hud details to a height of 6mm.

I began altering the graphics settings in the EAW.ini.

At 800x600 the font increased to 9mm.

At 640x480 the font shows as 15mm.

I did not use the LargeFont files on the last two settings. I now find myself what curious as to what would happen....mmm.

With my little laptop, I did not notice any real deterioration in graphics quality in the game at the lower settings.

I must be getting old (damn). I found the 800x600 and 640x480 settings the easiest to read on my laptop but then I have found the best results performance-wise and display with RB3D at those settings as well.

Anyway, as they say, its all in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks again VonBeerhofen.
