Guest zerocinco Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I think I want to invest the time to create a mission for WOV. I think everything can be done from "off the shelf" components. Before I seal off the door to the computer room, stop speaking to the outside world, and screw my career, I would like to know how much of this idea is practical. Who should I bother? Quote
+Dave Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Go for it, Talk to Saganuay he is the mission expert. Quote
Guest Saganuay82 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Well seeing how I was named here. Missions for WOV are easily done. My recommendation is to go get Kreelins editor. Play with that some. There is a tutorial available from Streakeagle. You can find those links in my sigblock. Kreelins editor would be available from Check6. Since it is WOV I would say you want to do Vietnam era, what plane? what objective?, how involved?, escorts?, Strike? Are you making them for you or do you want to release them? If you are a programmer you can handle HTML also. Have a look at Keith Bedfords site and have a look at the sfBrief program he made. Quote
Guest zerocinco Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Thanks for the input. I will start digging in. I want to create a few missions off on the west side of the terrain map. The core of all flight sims are bombing and dogfighting and they are pretty much the same on all of them. But WOV offers some historical opportunities that the others don't. 1- Modify a few terrain squares in 3D to simulate Mu Gia Pass. Put an accurate amount of 37mm there and then interdict the traffic. The best missions will be with Mk39 mines. You have to be on the deck and below 400 knots to deploy them. That puts you down into the valley. Google Earth it and you will see. The Convoy of trucks is already available. 2- Create a Search And Rescue. You have A1's, C130's for ABCCC, and even a Huey to pick up the downed airman when a dozen guns are silenced. Since shooting guns is already so hazardous in WOV, it would be tough to succeed. 3- Change Troops In Contact to real troops. Then the napalm and fleshettes should work fine. We have the squads. Just need to put them into missions. 4- Make buildings and sampans that explode or burn. It's mean but it IS what you do. Then, I would like to complete that AC130. It's an awesome weapon and the jerry-rigged AC130J I use it a kick to shoot at sampans with. But if you take it out to the west in the hills, it will be the weapon of choice. Give the NVN SA7's and the occasional MiG and I just get goosebumps. All the Knights of the Sky stuff is tons of fun and I like it, too. But most aerial warfare is bombing and most bombing in Southeast Asia was against people, jungle, trucks, bulldozers, supplies, the HCM Trail, and the PDJ. Double the AAA, make the 37's shoot clips and toss up small arm too and there would be missions unlike anything in the sims and anything anyone will ever fly again. So, yeah, these would be posted for everyone to play. Quote

Guest Saganuay82 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 (edited) You have a lot of work ahead of you then. The thing about it is that you not only would have to make the mission but add all the extras and zip the whole package. Then the player will be expected to add all of this to his WOV game to be able to play the mission. Keep going on this, good luck. I will attempt to help you when you need it. EDIT: I have made CSAR missions before using the SH-3 or Hueys. The helos don't do that well on their own and you are basically left with it flying in, around a couple of times and back home again. I would make the target area in around AAA so the SEAD would have something to shoot at . if you didn't kill it before the helo got there, usually the helo dies. Guest zerocinco Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Once I lay out the mission(s) and try to tie that in to the existing logic of WOV, I will certainly ask for your help. I just have to stay on task and not let things like food and utilities get in the way. Quote
