Erik 1,812 Posted May 7, 2006 An update after the site move: A browser problem has come up after we moved the site that has to do with cookies that we set in your browser. These cookies are part of normal day to day browser activity and they do things like remember your username / password and whether you wish to remain logged in on subsequent returns to our site. This cookie once resident on your machine stays active and will not expire. The below information will help you resolve this issue. SYMPTOM: Our main site (http://www.combatace.com) will not open or gives page display, can't be displayed errors. CAUSE: This is being caused by a resident cookie we set when the "remember me" box was ticked. FIX: - Close all browser windows. - Delete stored cookies from our domain. These cookies are stored in your browser cache directory. You can search for any cookie that has combatace.com in it and delete it. - Clear your browser cache (stored pages). - Re-open a new browser window to the site. *Note - If you have multiple browsers you'll need to remove the cookies stored for each browser you use. (They are stored in different places) Should you have any other concerns or need more indepth help please feel free to reply to this message. Take care; Erik Thompson CombatACE
streakeagle 871 Posted May 9, 2006 deleting the cookie restores access, but if I try to log in, even without using the remember me button, it locks me back out again. obviously, I can log into the forums without any problem ;)
Erik 1,812 Posted May 9, 2006 Make sure you delete "all" the cookies from combatace.com. There should be two one is the login and the other is the session ID. Once you've done that it should work fine for you. Let me know. I've tested this in as many browsers as I can think of, and it's working fine here. I'm hoping to find the "answer" which cures everyone's problems so take some notes of what you do it will be invaluable help. Thanks; Erik
streakeagle 871 Posted May 9, 2006 (edited) I deleted EVERY cookie that contained "combatace.com" in any way shape or form... a couple were associated with the website, a couple with the forum. This permits me to go to the website. But if I log in to the website, the new cookies cause the same problems as the old cookies. If I don't log in, I can come and go as I please. I have only one browser, IE6, and it is always patched to the latest updates. Edited May 9, 2006 by streakeagle
Erik 1,812 Posted May 10, 2006 Hi; Just a thought. Can you go into your browser settings; Above on the menu bar: Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Click the Internet Globe > Then choose reset to default or lower the setting for a test. Then browse to the site and let me know if that works. If you run software like Norton's Antivirus or Norton's Security Suite you may have to adjust the security policy there as well. Thanks for the help we'll find the solution one way or another. Take care; Erik
streakeagle 871 Posted May 10, 2006 I went one step further than you asked... I deleted all of my internet logins/passwords via the appropriate content tab of the internet options. No dice! If I try to log into the website, new cookie appears and connectivity to the combatace.com is immediately broken in response to the query after clicking to log in. Jado 0 Posted May 10, 2006 I'm experiencing the same exact problems that Streakeagle described. I tried the same exact fixes and still no joy if I log in. Using IE6 latest update as well. FWIW, Jado
Erik 1,812 Posted May 10, 2006 I can duplicate the problem but only using IE6 with the latest updates from Microsoft. IE6 without the update works fine. All other browsers work fine. The new IE7 beta works fine. So it has something to do with the security patch in IE6. I'll dig into it and see what I can find. Thanks for all the help it's been great. For now those using IE6 delete our site cookie and just remain logged out of the front page. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks; Erik
