Hi All,

1) I would like to know if there is something like an operating manual containing crucial and less important (generally ALL) information about A-10: tactics, manouvers, speeds, bomb run descriptions... something similar to the one written about F-15.

2) I have already been searching (but found nothing) for mods expanding A-10's armament. There are mods changing the quantity of rockets, bombs etc. but they do not add e.g. new bomb types (Paveway ;/, etc.). Did I miss something?

3) Why can't I use the middle [6th] paylon to mount just about anything? I even tried doing that on empty plane... It simply has no options for neither bombs, rockets, missiles and pods. Why (and HOW) is that?

I run Lock On: Modern Air Combat with 1.02 patch.

As far as Lomacs limitations in ordinance... and other aspects; thats just sorta how it is; for the purposes of the sim some things where left out such as (functional) AG radars, NATO/US laser guided munitions like the paveway series and GBU's. Your not the first to mention this, I recall some time ago there being some mod work/ discussion on adding some of these back into the game, (the AG radar most noteably). This for the most part works pretty well as there is not much of a call for any sorta precision bombing in the hog... honestly I can't rightly say I have even engaged a ground target above 10k feet in the 10'. and if I am going to be that high I am going to use CCRP bombing in a short interval ripple (drop em all) fashion, and call it a day. Of course that is going to depend on how hard core the AA/SAM installations are going to be at your target, how many wingmen I have to sacrifice, exc exc... of course if eagle dynamics keeps up with the expansions / add-ons, then we may well see precision ordinance NVG's for the 10's; and some other cool stuff. :ok:

Ok well i dont know about any manuals but i can tell you what i know about the A-10 and its tactics. First... its slow, ugly and mean as heck. Its slow but you can use that to your advantage in most cases. Trying to outrun a Mig-29 in full afterburner is not an option... Close the distance between you and the attacker and I'm talking about the missile that's fired, cause who cares what boris thinks, hes not the missile traveling at mach 3. You have plenty of flares and chaff so use em, look for the missle to get within the 1.5nm range then poop out some flares and bank until you get a nose bleed. but its all about timing, too early and the missile could re-acquire on you and kill you, too late and your a grease streak on some road... The A-10 is VERY VERY maneuverable but when your flying so close to the ground its a good idea to experiment with the planes banking and climbing capability at various speeds and weights. It ruins your day when the plane goes into a full stall at 300 feet...So i dont wanna eat up the Bandwidth of this LOVERLY site so if you wanna know more contact me at Culturelagging@hotmail.com I have a website with forums and such with a special section for things like this and ill add a LOMAC section too

The A-10 never did nor does it currently have A/G Radar. As far as LGB's, in the past (and as modelled in the game) it is merely a truck. It can bring LGB's into the target area, and drop them (within parameters), but someone or something has to provide the "illumination" of the target. Ground unit, helicopter or some other aircraft capable of "laser designating" the target for the bomb to hit it. If those other elements are available, the target symbology will appear in the HUD when the LGB is the weapon selected. Don't hold your breath for NVG's or other stuff for LOMAC. As far as I can tell, ED has stopped supporting this product "in favor of newer projects".

Do not know exactly what the counter-missile tactics are for the A-10, but it's dramatic maneuverability is a big factor. Keep in mind that displacement is the key here. If you wrap the A-10 into a turn into an attacking missile (classic counter-missile move) and the whole turning area is within the acquisition cone of the missile, the missile will still paste you. The jet needs to move outside of the attacking missile's acquisition cone for the missile to miss. Faster jets have an advantage here because of the distance it takes a fast jet to make a sharp corner. Defensive maneuvers at altitude, say in a U-2, are rather gentle because of the distances involved and the thin air. Remember, even at warp speed, missiles have little tiny maneuvering wings and they are only good for one good correction and then they lose track quickly. It is all about timing. My best move in the A-10 is a quick turn into the missile, hold a 90 degree off track for a second or two and reverse the turn. Missile changes course to aim toward the first change, but is unable to sustain track in the reversal. The old Mark I eyeball is the best guage for getting better at timing, and your POV helps use the Mark I. If you are not moving your POV (and your jet too) constantly in a SAM environment or AtoA engagement, you're toast.
