Dell Flat Screen 1704FTP

Recommended Posts

Hi Fellas,

Recently, I had to update my video card drivers due to an unrelated issue I was having with some Roxio Easy Creator 8 software. I can now burn my home movies, however, I am having some diplay issues in WOV.

When gameplay starts, the display only shows the left hand side of the game. Specifically, the middle of the aircraft and everything left of it is shown, i.e. left wing, left side of the runway, etc. is shown on the far right of the display. The right side is not visible (unless I use button controls to maneuver around or above the plane, etc.). I have gone into WOV graphics settings and maxed out or "dumbed" down the controls (resolution & display aspect ratios) to no avail. I have manipulated the settings in windows control panel to see if that would help, but no joy here either.

Can anyone provide me a lead to get this corrected? Also, what is the best resolution & display aspect ratio for WOV given my specs? - I am using a 128MB DDR Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Graphics card with a 17" Dell 1704FPT Ultrasharp Digital Flat Panel Display; Windows XP Home Edition; 1GB Dual DDR SDRAM - Windows settings are 1024x768; WOV settings are 1024x768x16. Thank you in advance

First thoughts off the cuff sort of thing:

1. START > RUN > Type in "DXDIAG" > Press Enter - Does DXDIAG report any display problems or driver problems?

2. Have you updated DirectX?

3. Might try a re-install of DirectX. DirectX

4. I see that your WOV display is set at 16 bit color will WOV not support 32 bit color? Curious at best.

5. Is WOV patched and updated?

6. Is WOV the only place you experience this problem?

7. Have you tried re-installing the software (note: safe all your valuable stuff before re-installing any software)?

With any luck someone here might know exactly where to point you, but that's my offering.

Regards;

Erik

the best resolution on an LCD is usually it's native 1 (1280x1024 on that Dell I believe).

If it's not a widescreen then 4:3 for aspect ratio.

Hi Buff,

I tried all you mentioned, and even reinstalled, but no luck. WOV is the only place where I am having this issue. I noticed on the XP control panel & NVidia settings that there are multiple options to tweak a 2 monitor setup, with minimal mention of a single monitor operation. Although I have the single monitor option checked, I am wondering if I had missed a checkbox somewhere and my system is trying to display through a "2nd" monitor/lcd. I say this because when I "dumbed" down my settings and cliked the options setting (before reflying a mission), my screen flickered and noticed 2 cursors and two menus. Weird huh? Is there a way I can remove the "2nd" monitor option in XP or through NVidia? I don't anticipate using a 2nd lcd flatscreen?

However, I'm gonna try to reinstall the old drivers and see if that works (although that would bring up the prior problem). Great call on the DXDIAG, however. That is a pretty nifty tool I was not aware of previously. Again, thanks for your time and input.
