+streakeagle 871 Posted October 15, 2006 This sim has been under development for quite some time. Theoretically, they are close to releasing a base version that allows you to complete basic fighter training starting with a prop, moving up to the T-38, and finally flying an F-16. I hope they follow through and that the resulting product is good enough that everyone supports it with their $. If they deliver a product as good as they make it out to be and the gamers support it with their money, this could become the best modern jet sim ever made. But, I am not holding my breath waiting for it. Targetware promised a lot and took forever to before the first beta went public. I haven't tried it lately, but every time I have tried it over the years, I have been disappointed. Screenshots and promised specifications are one thing, a finished game that I like better than what is already available is something completely different :)
Guest IndioBlack Posted October 17, 2006 Has any one checked this sim out? http://www.fighterops.com/index.htm Thanks, I have now. No release date, but a lot of talk. I'd like to see something substantial before I get too excited
Rowdy1 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I wish I could give out some info but thats top secret area 51 stuff. LOL I wasn't sure either but now I am sure it's coming out. I know I'm going to need a bigger hard drive. It uses the x-plane engine and will have the whole globe if you chose to install it. That alone according to x-plane (Check the x-plane site out) will take 60 gig's.
PacmanXSI 0 Posted November 6, 2006 (edited) Hi all, IndioBlack is correct that there is no releasedate set. The developer diaries are a good measurement tool to get an idea of where we are at and what we have been doing. I know everybody is anxious to see what this flightsim can do on his own rig. And in time you will. Please let me assure you that there is no need to doubt that the project is alive and doing well. We are way past the point of "Will FighterOps see the light of day?", it is now a matter of "When will it see the light of day?" The reason why this is taking longer then we wanted is that we are not using the X-plane engine as a whole Rowdy. In fact almost all the code from the X-plane engine is simply thrown out and rewritten from scratch. This to be replaced by code that suits our needs in simulating a combat environment. The GFX and terrain engine is not even comparable to X-plane. The X-plane FM is second to none for non-mach aircraft. It wasn't what we were looking for in regards to accuracy for the highly maneuvrable training and combat aircraft we will be simulating in FighterOps. And that, amongst other fields, is where we are working hard to become "second to none". There is still a lot of hard work ahead of us. You are more then welcome to check our website when you feel like it. Especially the Area51 forums will dig up a lot of good discussions between the members and our dev team when you submit a search on your favorite topics. And if it does't turn up the answer you hoped for, post your question and we will try and answer it for you.
