squid Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 Hello all 1) How do you bomb in SF ? What aiming aids are available ? (the gunsight has been proven useless so far) 2) Does A/G radar especialy in "normal" and above dificulty setting, lock ground targets ? if it does, is this guiding or helping bombing and how ? 3) How are shrikes being used ? how are they aimed ? Thanks Quote
kidgalahad Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 There are no bombing aids. It just takes practice, lots of it! There is a tutorial here or at SimHq from Andy Bush on bombing. Quote
column5 Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 To answer questions 2 and 3, no, the air to ground radar will not lock onto targets. A2G radar of the day could only provide ground mapping and terrain avoidance modes, although SFP1 simplifies these modes. To fire a Shrike, just point your aircraft towards the radar site and fire. The Shrike will guide towards it automatically, but there is a chance that it will miss. This behavior isn't entirely correct, as I think I read that Shrikes emitted a tone (similar to the way a Sidewinder does) when they were 'locked' onto a target. Basically, you are dealing with 'dumb' weapons where pilot skill and luck are the determining factors in the success of a strike, just as it was in RL. Quote
CowboyTodd41 Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 For shrikes...When you're in your F-4E take a look at the RWR. If you see a green square or hear a tone (that means SAM) put the green square near the top of the RWR. When it gets in that area make sure you where the radar site, ZSU-23-4, or SA-2 is. When you see it pojnt your nose toward it and release the Shrike, it will guide it self to the target with the highest radiation emmitions, ie you might want to take out that BAR LOCK radar, but you kill the SA-2 tracking radar. There is no way to select targets until we AGm-88 HARMs. Quote
Andy Bush Posted March 29, 2003 Posted March 29, 2003 We are hoping to get our new article on A2G weapons delivery techniques posted this weekend. The article covers level and dive bombing, rocket deliveries, and strafe. Specific techniques and HUD aiming references for each of the four primary aircraft are included along with tips for how to fly two types of attacks, the overhead and the pop-up. The SFP1 A2G radar is useful for navigation only at this stage of the game. In real life, the radar in an A2G role was typically used only for nuclear deliveries. Quote
