Red Von Hammer 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Well I just went over from a Goldstar CRT 17" to a Acer AL 1951, the difference is tremendous. So yes, it would be a good idea :) S! RVH
BUFF 8 Posted January 9, 2007 I have just gotten back into Flight Sims and I am using a 17" CRT monitor now but I wat to buy a 19" LCD. Would this be a good Idea to switch to a LCD???? A 19" LCD is more like the screen area of a 21" CRT so it's a lot more screen area. They aren't so good at running non-native resolutions though so if you like running @ 1600x1200 etc. or more choose wisely.
jodandawg 18 Posted January 13, 2007 I use a Dell LCD monitor and it works great for Flight sims.
pcelt 0 Posted January 13, 2007 I have a question re LCD and native resolutions I am going to need to cast aside my old faithful CRT and invest in a 19" LCD or larger . My customary resolution for games is 1024/768 but I understand that native resolution for a 19" LCD is 1280/1024. I dont enjoy higher resolutions because ,with my aging eyesight I find the in game text too small. I have a double question 1) If you switch a native 1280 /1024 resn to 1024/768 on an LCD how much loss and distortion (ifany) is there in picture quality? -----or would some particular higher native resolution be switchable to 1024/768 with less loss in quality? 2) Alternatively, is there any way (within games) to keep the resn at 1280/1024 but increase the in- game text size? Perhaps finally-- what particular model of 19" LCD can you most highly recommend for games and sims like FE etc. Many thanks for any advice /clarification re these issuesa
Crockett12 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Great question! I'll be doing the same thing in the not too far distant future and have the same problems as you with my eyesight! I also use 1024/768! Looking forward to the answers! Crockett

+SkippyBing 8 Posted January 13, 2007 2) Alternatively, is there any way (within games) to keep the resn at 1280/1024 but increase the in- game text size? With the Third Wire series a bit of tinkering with the HUDDATA.INI file in the Flight folder lets you change the font size, and the font of the in game text. You'll need to get the extractor utility to get the INI file out of one of the CAT files in the Flight folder, but there's probably a tutorial around here somewhere. It's actually much easier than I just made it sound!
