The joystick in question is a Gravis Blackhawk Digital. I remember playing X-Wing with this, and it felt alright to me.

PROS

# Cheaply priced

# 13 programmable features, 5 of which are rapid-fire buttons

# Auto-calibration

# 8-way POV hat switch

# Realistic rotary throttle

# Weighted base for stability and control

# "Even includes Descent 3 Sol Ascent, a great spaceship flying game."

# Easy to setup and use.

CONS

# Cheaply made

# Game Port Required (no USB for you)

# Radically dated technology, made in 1998(!)

Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

Dude, will most games even recognize a gameport? Heck, can you even find a gameport card that fits in a semi-modern computer (using PCI slots...last gameport card I had was ISA only).

I wouldn't man, you can buy a decent stick for not much more new.

Stay away from gameport. Do your self a favor, save your money and get a real stick.

Agreed. Stay away from this one. Find a decent USB stick online and save yourself a myriad of headaches.

Since the overwhelming majority (everybody) points to no, I shall refrain from making this purchase.

Upon further reflection, it's times like this that I think "What made me think this was a good idea?" :fool: I guess I was just attracted by the simplicity of the controller itself, in an age of useless toys and dongles.

I think I'm just gonna get a Logitech Attack 3.

Oh, and thanks for the advice! :good:

MS has had it in for the gameport since XP's release. They support USB for inputs only at this point.

My old SB Audigy had a functional gameport under XP, but when I replaced it my mobo's port was worthless (mega spike city).

Like 3.5" floppies, ISA, and VESA LB video, gameports are now obsolete.

Which is a bloody shame...because one of the greatest gamepads for the PC...Microsoft's own Sidewinder...was a gameport pad

I had a great FFB wheel for my PC--the MS Sidewinder! I bought a USB adapter for it, but while it CONTROLLED, it didn't "work"--the FFB was dead that way.

So I bought an Act Labs...mistake. Never really liked it. Now I have a Momo, much better.
