WarlordATF Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 The release of the fictional Lavi skin caused me to create a Monster! I downloaded and installed the skin but i soon realized that it still wasn't a Lavi, so i started doing my homework and i adjusted the dry weight, weapons stations and upgraded the Radar. Then i learned about the Engine IAI intended to use, the Pratt & Whitney PW1120. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_&_Whitney_PW1120 Wow! Why wasn't this engine mass produced?? I know it was expensive, but IMHO the IAF and USAF could have both used this beast of an engine. I started with the F-15As Pratt & Whitney F-100 and crunched the numbers and After i fitted it to the J-10/Lavi i noticed a major performance boost. Then i decided to make a copy of the Mirage Factorys F-4E Kurnass and fitted it with a few upgrades and a pair of these engines to simulate the Kurnass 2000 and I was able to super cruise at 68% throttle at 25000 ft! The Kurnass 2000 ended up sticking with the J-79s, but the PW1120 was the intended engine. Its not perfect, I still need to reduce fuel consumption and there might still be a mistake or two but Here is the Version i'm using in my Lavi in case anyone wants to play around with it, feel free to correct any of my errors and i'd love to hear what you think. +76.IAP-Blackbird Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Looks interesting, will refit my Kurnass 2000 and Lavi with this engine. It should work good. Thanks for your posting, but have no idea about the fuel consumption. My first thought was it`s the Machdrytaledata stuff but I don`t know for what it`s good. Quote
WarlordATF Posted November 2, 2008 Author Posted November 2, 2008 (edited) If your going to put this engine in a F-4 (Or any other plane) you will have to change some of the data to match the engines you are replacing or else it the animation won't work right or the thrust/exhaust will come from the wrong place,Its easy, you just have to compare the old with the new... +76.IAP-Blackbird Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Thanks, will create a testplane for those entries. Quote
Icarus999 Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 the P&W 1120 was a bad A** little engine that while quite a bit smaller and lighter than the J-79 had much better performance and fuel economy, the F-4's performance was so markedly improved with these engines that Mcdonnell douglass did everything in their power to kill the f-4 upgrade program- twice- first in 1984 when Boeing/P&W first developed the super phantom for the USAF as a way to upgrade Reserve and ANG phantoms, as well as the export market. Then again a few years later when Israel developed the kurnass 2000. The super phantom was seen as a serious threat to sales of the F-18/ F-15, as many nations who already operated the F-4 may have very well chosen to buy a few less f-15's and put the savings into upgrading the Phantoms they already owned. I remember a thread a while back about editing out parts of aircraft and editing in replacments. It was f-4 pylons if I remember right but it was applied to the Mirage Factory kurnass to remove the refuling probe... in order to get a standard f-4E with TIESO. Well I wonder how hard it would be to replace the J-79 cans with 1120's using that method if we had an animated model of the P&W1120 cans? just a thought... Quote
+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 This can`t be done you have to remodell the original core file of the F-4E without it you can have unanimated cans that`S all. Quote
