Dr.1 name change

Recommended Posts

I think the Rudolf Stark Dr.1 in the download section might be wrong.

The pilot may have been Vzf. Edgar Sholtz.

Maybe they both flew the same Dr.1. Not sure :dntknw:

Anyone know?

Well, first off, Stark never flew in Jasta 11. He served with Jasta's 34, 77, and 35.

Dr.I 146/17 was indeed a Jasta 11 machine, but it was handed down to Jasta 34 in May 1918. Stark was photographed sitting in, and standing next to it, but comparing photo's of 146/17 in Jasta 11 service, and those taken with Stark when he was with J34, show that the paint scheme was exactly the same, except for the overpainting of the crosses. Stark may have had it painted with his trademark lilac colour sometime later though.

As you say in your 'Read Me', the colours of 146/17 are speculative...Especially the yellow.

As far as I'm aware, the Jasta 11 pilot of 146/17 is unknown, but Edgar Scholtz (6 victories) did fly with Jasta 11 from January till May 2nd 1918, when he was killed in a flying accident, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it was his.

Up to you of course, but personally, I would rename the skin something like "J11Scholtz?".

Regards.

Thanks for the info southside. I knew something wasn't right. But couldn't find the info.

You think Lillac could have been the color of the band and tailplane tips? :dntknw: But probably not with Jasta 11. So I guess we cant know for sure. Too bad huh :sorry:

No prob's...Glad to help.

Actually, with a bit more research on the subject, it's doubtful if Stark ever got the chance to personalise his Dr.I, and he certainly never scored any of his eleven victories in it. because quite soon after receiving it, he was posted to command Jasta 77.

If you can find a copy of Rudolph Stark's book 'Wings of War' it's well worth a read, even if it is written in that dour teutonic style. Tends to be quite expensive too.

Great job on the new J14 skins BTW. Oh, and thanks for the mention in the new 'Read Me'.
