savagkc Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I got the dirX installed. Re-installed SFP1 (Pre-2008). Works good under the 32-bit folder. Dont work at all under 64-bit. No biggie here, vista 32-bit is fine. But, (there's always a "But") installing the latest patch will lockup system. New weapons program - does it go inside the SFP1\Objects\ Weapons folder? Where does the Guns program reside? Thanks for the help Dave, savagcl Quote
+Dave Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Hey Clif. how are you? Put the weapon editor in your Windows/System folder and put a short cut on your desktop. Take your install of SF, patch it all the way to Oct2008. then I made folder in my windows/documents folder, cut and pasted it in there. You should have no problems running it. I am running all of them in the 64 Bit Vista version. Quote
savagkc Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 OK Dave, I'll try that this evening..... Standby. clif Quote
savagkc Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Dave, I did a cleal install of SFP1 applied the latest update. I installed to drive "M". Un zipped the weapons/guns to C:\Windows\system folder. NOTE: the clean install without doing weapons or the update works good. Ran the weapons program, opening the SFP1 weapondata.ini and saved it into the SFP1 folder. Ran the game and it locked up tight, could only stop the program using the task manager. When i install, vista picks it up as a 32-bit app and places it into the Start>Programs under the 32-bit apps area. I didnt check where it is after the update is applied. Will check tonight when i try again. If i read correctly, you placed the entire SFP1 folder into the Documents folder? Why would it need to be in the Documents folder instead of where you want to place it? ?????? savagcl Edited January 30, 2009 by savagkc Quote
+Dave Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Check where the update installed and get it out of that folder. Even better re-install it to a folder on your desktop. Then put it in your My Documents folder or a folder in your Vista namesake folder. Here is what mine looks like. See the 3rd Wire folder? All my stuff is in there. I don't put any of that stuff in any program folder. Quote

OK, I'll re-install to the desktop then apply the update to the desktop version. Of course, removing the current install first. Thanks, savagcl Quote
savagkc Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 I got the 2008 update working in drive "M" from a clean install then the update. Only changes made so far: 1. Replaced the Control.ini mainly for the views. 2. Put the weapons editor in C:\windows\system. Cannot find any weapons (data or ini) in the updated, new install so the weapons editor don't find any either. Do i copy my backed-up (from previous versions) weapon data/ini into the new SFP1\Objects folder? I see in the 2008 readme that not all mods will work in latest version. Have we lost all the modded aircraft, terrains, effects and weapons???? Hope not.. Thanks Dave, savagcl PS: Dont like the blue ID tags. Got to be a way to turn them off.... Quote

You either have to extract the weaponsdata.ini from the objects.cat in the objects folder, or install one of the weapons packs which makes a folder and cotains said data. So far all the effects have worked, most aircraft have worked and weapons work just fine. Most aircraft just need FM tweaks and old terrain might need a tweak here and there. You turn off the tags by setting the hud difficulty IIRC. Quote
savagkc Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 OK, New home, new PC = missing stuff, like the program to extract a file from a .cat. Dont know where i could find a file extractor do you? So, I can't just copy the old weapons folder to the new install and run the new weapon editor against it? For the effects and aircraft - can i just copy those folders from old to new? Hope they dont have to be re-installed...... Dave, Thanks for all the help and your time, savagcl Quote
