Does anyone what parameter to amend, to change the location of the pilot's eyes for aicraft in FE? I ask because, while the eye position for some aicraft seem about right (eg SE5a), for others it seems as though the pilot's nose is between the gun butts (eg Camel), with seriously negative results on external visibility.

 

While I do know that there were major differences in cockpit sizes and locations, I have been lucky enough to see many real or replica WW1 ac close-up and personal (inc Camel and SE5a), and so do not believe that the Camel pilot was _quite_ that constrained. Anyway I'd like to experiment with this.

Alternatively to editing the files as described in that thread, if your only issue is forward and backward, not up and down (up and down requires file editing) then it can be set in game.

 

For example, press F1. Then when in that view use the numberpad +/- to zoom in and out to where you want it. Press F2, do the same, again for F3. Now when you go back to them they will be at the zoom you left them at. I found that much easier then editing files. Now on planes like the Sopwith Snipe I did have to edit so I was a bit lower in the seat, I could not see through it's "pipe" sight.

Bleddyn, when you edited for the Snipe's seat, what ****cockpit.ini/CockpitSeat001line did you edit, "Position" or "Offset"? Because to be honest I found the debate over these two just a little confusing.

I was going to answer to that, but the very precise answer had been given yet in the topic i gave, so i will just quote myself:

 

POSITION moves the external 3D plane (yours, visible from the cockpit view, ide wings, fuselage...) from your eyes, the external file only not the cockpit.

 

OFFSET changes the position of the cockpit realitively to your eyes.

 

So basically if you want to change your view position (wanted to have a higher view on the spad7 and a good aiming view in Nieuport 17 and Bristol fighter) you have to CHANGE BOTH and tweak em not to have a separation between cockpit and 3D external plane.

 

Or you may change the viewlist.ini file present in flight folder.

 

CHanging one of the values only will make the cockpit to appear 10 meters farther from the plane. You have to change one, then readapt the other.

In the end I edited the ViewList.ini file, to make the close, standard & wide views 60 degrees, 90 degrees and 120 degrees respectively. That works for me.

OK MAKO69 you've asked for this. A couple of studies on an RAF station back in the '60s or '70s, found that as the weight of clothing worn by the WAAFs went down, total flying hours went up! Raised all kinds of questions about the effect of the girls' appearance on the mens' morale, perhaps leading to better motivation, harder work, more flying etc?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But no, it just meant that it was summer...
