I thought the F-4 could reach supersonic speed..and isn't mach 1 somewhere around 750kts? The most I can reach is 738 and thats in a dive.

This could have alot to do with the Drag problesms that reduce the airspeed

However, the all-missile fighter had shown some serious drawbacks in the initial air-to-air battles over Vietnam. The earlier Sparrow, Falcon, and Sidewinder air-to-air missiles did not perform up to expectations. They were expensive, unreliable, and vulnerable to countermeasures. Many an enemy MiG was able to escape unscathed because a Phantom-launched missile malfunctioned and missed its target. The Phantoms could carry a podded cannon mounted on the centerline, but it was relatively inaccurate, caused excessive drag which reduced the performance of the Phantom carrying it, and took up a valuable ordinance/fuel station.

I've been flying the F-4E and it has an internal gun..also I've tried this even after firing all missiles...gotta be a way to get above 750kts.I'm digging through the files..lots of stuff in these files I've never seen in the game.neat stuff.

Mach one is about 675 knots at sea level..I've hit mach one in the F4B at level flight with full weapons load..best way to tell..the machmeter located on the panel

Check your airspeed indicator inside the cockpit. This shows KTAS (true air speed) and there's a mach meter. The speed shown on screen is KIAS (indicated air speed). Here you can see I'm cruising around at 763 KIAS, but in the cockpit on the airspeed indicator I'm going 1,009 KTAS which is showing around Mach 1.6.

I also had a loadout of 4 AIM-7s and 4 AIM-9s, so clean might have been faster.

And remember, the higher your altitude, the lower the actual airspeed of sound. So, at 40,000 ft, you can be going much less than 675 knots and still break the barrier.

Oh, by the way...check out the F10 fly by view while travelling this fast. I don't think I've ever seen such a fast fly by!

I like the way SF doppler shifts the sound until its real close to an actual sonic boom.
