navychief 1 Posted December 17, 2003 Oh heck no, Firehawkordy. But I surely flew in the C-9s a lot when they took us from NAS Cecil Field to Norfolk, to go onboard the USS Independence; and on numerous dets to Fallon, Roosevelt Roads, NAS Key West, etc... firehawkordy 34 Posted December 18, 2003 Chief, yeah I rode in the "Lawn Dart" from Pt.Mugu to North Island and Fallon. I'll tell you one thing, they are alot more comfotable than a C-5 or 141 HAL-5 and HCS-5 got to ride those things. navychief 1 Posted December 18, 2003 Hey Firehawkordy I once took a C-130 flight from MCAS Iwakuni to Wake Island, to replace their Lox cart. The aircon was virtually non-existent, and the flight took 8 hours! Hot, loud, and slow. But, when I got to Wake, it was worth it. The Marines said they had to go away for 8 days on different stops, and would come back to pick me up. I told them not to be in any hurry! I was given my own vehicle to drive (a tiny pickup, with a canvas top in the back), a barracks room, and a meal pass. Heaven on earth! For a solid week, all I did was swim, fish, drink heavily, bowl (yes, they have a six lane bowling alley on Wake), and scuba dive. In fact, the "Mayor" of Wake Island said I could drink and drive, but not to get too drunk!!! I hope to see Wake Island again, but it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. firehawkordy 34 Posted December 18, 2003 I'd like to go there too,but for a different reason. My uncle Art was taken prisoner by the Japanese there,he survived the camps but didn't say much about what he went through.I guess it'd be a pilgrimage of sorts.
