This plane is amazing. No wonder the allies were terrified of it....

It is indeed. When I first started flying OFF and getting the feel of WWI planes, I was under-impressed. True, it didn't 'stall and fall' like so many of the others. What I really wanted to see was its legendary ability to 'hang on the prop' and it didn't seem to want to do that. So I ignored it while I flew the others. Then, when I got back into a D.VII, knowing more about what's possible, I was very impressed. There are so many times when you're closing with another plane, you've almost got him, he starts climbing, the stall warning starts flashing on the screen and I'm praying, 'Give me two more seconds. Just two. OK, one. Almost there....and I squeeze off a nice long burst." I think a plane that grants that kind of fervent wish can truly be said to 'hang on the prop'.

Whats really great about it as you say is its ability to hang on. When you climb with an EA and see the enemy unable to hang on the prop themselves and stall down, you can slam on the rudder and get back in a nice firing position very soon after. After flying the Spad XIII, the Fokker really is a joy to fly (well just about anything is!).

The D VII F should be doing even better in climbing.

Ah yes, I neglected to specify...I go with the D.VIIF every time. Did a quick google, and found that it was given a beefed-up engine to enhance climbing ability. It worked.

Swatting DH2s with an F DVII ? ...You big bully.

It might be a litte tougher dealing with a Camel.

Seriously, tho' it seems to me that, compared with it's contemporaries, the DVII can't take a hit. -I mean, it's an amazing scrapper, alright... but in most other fighters, if I do get nailed once, there's a decent chance I can hang in there and manage to down my opponent, or if nothing else, run like a scalded dog. But it seems if I get hit just once in a DVII, I might as well jump, 'chute or no... because it becomes so un-flyable you are a sitting duck, and even if your attackers chase off after someone else, there is no way you will put it down in one piece. -Or is that just me?

I only flew the DVII in some QC so far, but as I have experienced, It can take a few hits. It's not weaker than other german planes I think. And I also think that the DVII is a great plane. Very fast and also as agile as the Dr.I. I feel almost invincible flying that plane!
