OT: Help choosing a monitor

Recommended Posts

Well, my 19" CRT monitor now smells like burning plastic on occasion, so it's time to get a WS LCD monitor.

I have a limited budget, though, and am looking for a decent 22" LCD monitor under $220 CAD. Any suggestions as to a decent monitor that may fit the bill? I have a Radeon X1950Pro and unfortunately won't be upgrading it anytime soon so I don't have to have one that has 1920x1080 resolution (1680x1050 max should be just fine).

Anyways, I'm interested in hearing any good experiences (or bad experiences) with any 22"'ers or some recommendations (or ones to avoid).

I'm looking at the under $220 CAD ones here:

and here:

Since I am new to the realm of ws lcd monitors, any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Obviously cant help you pick out a monitor,,,thats just too much of a personal decision.

But if it helps any, i went from a 21crt to a 24lcd (acer, whould never go for an off brand) primarily for the reason this computer is at work, and it was just too much of a pain moving the crt around when i needed the space.

The 24 was not that pricey, only 249 usd, but I have 2 reservations about going to an lcd. one, you gain width, but loose hight, and unless you go huge, the total viewing space either stays the same, or is really not that much more than when you started. And the crt definatly had a crisper picture. Im not saying im unhappy with my lcd, but if this computer ever gets to where its not being moved around, i will be looking for a mammoth crt.

BTW,,the 21 inch crt (along with 2 others i have here) where given to me by computer repair shops. They seem to have little or no resale value to them, so you might want to check around your area and see whats available. lol....realise there is some "status" of having a flatscreen,,,crts seem to be going the way of the dinasour.

I have an LG W2252TQ-TF 22" 1680 x 1050 widescreen 2ms LCD. It's very similar to the one on your first link. I have nothing but good things to say about this monitor, my favorite feature is the ability to easily switch from 16:10 aspect to the old 4:3 aspect for my old games that look too "stretched" on widescreen viewing. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a DVI cable. I had to spend another $8 after I opened up the box.

I got mine at newegg in Jan for $289 and it's on sale right now for $189 plus free shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824005112
