sitting_duck 3 Posted June 11, 2009 Erik, just want to get this onto its own thread, as all the other posts on the subject are mixed in with other topics. Was wondering if you have made any progress, and/or if some of your questions have been answered. I dont really think there is anything you need from us, other then maybe a quick walkthru once to show you how to host a game.. And, as stated in a different thread, I am not even sure if you can set this up as a "cfs3server" per say, where all you are is the go betwwen players hosting, and players joining, A duplication of what Microsft used to do when the game first came out. The other option is just hosting a dogfight game, and letting it run all the time. Hopefully some one with more knowlege of servers, game servers and such will provide some input. But still think its a great idea.
+Erik 1,812 Posted June 12, 2009 Alright well lets just jump in on this and figure out where and how this is going to work. I'm going to install a static IP Teamspeak server for you OFF guys. This means you'll have your own static server that will always have the same IP address and it means that you guys don't have to host a TS server while trying to play. To make this work correctly I'd like to have maybe 5 or so key players that we can enlist to admin the server. I would like folks who are familiar with TS Servers and who the community generally sees as being online hosts or leaders. These people may be called on by the people on teamspeak to either change it's configuration and in general just make sure it's being used properly and without abuse. We'll need some sort of community password established that folks can find and remember. This will allow the server some privacy from outside interruptions. Let me know and we'll consider this step on in getting something setup for you guys. E
+Erik 1,812 Posted June 12, 2009 I moved the above response from a thread because I didn't see someone had created this topic. This is a bump because moved posts don't bump topics.
sitting_duck 3 Posted June 12, 2009 lol...yeah,,that was kinda strange,,,someone quoted you,,but i could for the life of me find where they had quoted your from..... You can count me in if you need any assistance, just have to keep in mind 1. i dont have that much control over my schedule (which might sound strange as it seems im always here or playing,,,,) and 2, i shut down this computer everynite,,, Now as far as your post goes,,,,none of us, with the excption of outlaw (the server we connect to) have anything other than the client installed on our computers. So we dont ever "host" teamspeak, we just connect to outlaws server... I am not sure if what you had in mind was severl people taking turns running the TS server ( which i dont think would be a static ip), or you meant having the ts server on your computer, with a few pilots able to monitor, and maintain it. In the brief time i have used TS, it has never had any problems. Im not so sure that it needs monitoring, or maintenence,,, With that in mind, dont think you are going to find anyone familiar with teamspeak servers. I did breifly look into it, but it seem that to be a server, there is a cost involved,,,which is where i stopped looking. I could be wrong about this..... And i do entirely agree that there will be a need for a second ts server, and or another ts channel if you do get a multiplayer server up, as pilots in a mp mission will not want to listen to pilots in a dogfight and vica versa. But i think you would have a difficult time getting existing mp pilots to swich from the outlaw server for the mp that is currently up and running. Wish any of this helped to further your cause, But it doesnt seem like it does.

But i think you would have a difficult time getting existing mp pilots to swich from the outlaw server for the mp that is currently up and running. I have to admit I know nothing about the current existing climate of what is or is not happening in the OFF M/P World. I thought you guys were all in need of a place to call your own which is why I offered to help. I do not know who "outlaw" is. Is this a member here that hosts his own TS server and admins it too? My plan was to put a TS server up for you guys to use that will always be there and give you guys a meeting place that's all your own with multiple channels for people to move around in talk, game, or whatever else you wanted. In looking for Admins I was looking for people who could be server admins (SA) on the server. These people authorize things like registration, creating, removing channels, etc etc. There is nothing special about them or their software just that they can be trusted to handle the job and have some working knowledge of how to do things like allowing other players to register, etc. If Outlaw is hosting his server privately maybe he'd just want to take over administering a server here instead. I don't know but will wait for feedback from you guys. Getting the guys to move to a new TS server is completely up to each of you not sure I can or would be any help with that aspect of things. I'm just the guy who can connect boxes and services to really fast duplexing signals. E
sitting_duck 3 Posted June 13, 2009 Just so you have a better idea of what is currently in place, and then you would have a better handle on in what areas have room for improvement, suggest you get yourself up to the point where you can join us in mp, on the current ts server ( and yes,,,outlaw is a persone who hosts the teamspeak server for off, as well as the teamspeak server for the boysof60) Not trying to entice you into the mp theater ( well...no more than i try to entice anyone into mp), but think everything might be clearer to you as to what needs to be done, what is possible, what is not possible and all that kind of stuff... And besides,,,what do you have to loose,,,i mean,,whos gonna shot YOU down,,,,right,,,?
