Yes, I echo Bletchley, and believe that the losses are about correct. It is interesting to note that while making a mission for P2 that there was a tremendous amout of FLAK created by a number of German torpedo boats, which the AI ( British Mission) were able to survive, yet I was shot down as a flyer, on every occasion. At the end, the AI went in and bombed the boats, and the "player" was an escort. ANy comment POL/WINDER?

Today, I was flying over the lines, TAC set at one mile, no enemies seen at that distance. All of a sudden the screen goes red and the next thing my pilot is put in an ambulance and officially wounded.

Was he (I) shot down by Archie?

Thanks for the good topic WM and for aksing our input (as usual) . Everyone is offering up good ideas here, and I wonder if adding the aircraft's atlitude into the equation somehow would not be prudent. Obviously, the lower the a/c, the more accurate the AA will (or should) be, all other things being equal. Also, woud the damage model option choosen be a factor? I find the current config to be adequate. My settngs: Normal, DM-Hard

AA seems pretty good in BH&H, if it was like in the Flyboy movie above .... none of us would be alive!

How did they get through that Archie as close as its shown? ........ Haaaa, Hollywood!

Cheers,

Yea, some of the blasts were making the planes jump, but with no damage? ..come on.. Hollyweird, indeed!

It probably was Archie, Jim :)

The first barrage was generally the most accurate - the gunners had the time to make careful calculations of height, speed and direction before the target aircraft started to make evasive moves. If there was cloud in the sky they could get good altitude and wind-drift information from those in advance (and flying into a cloud to evade AAA fire was often, therefore, the worst thing a pilot could do). I have read reports in the memoir literature of pilots seeing another aircraft, no enemy in sight, just explode for no apparent reason - but it usually turns out to have been an accurate first salvo from AAA.

Or it could be a leaking fuel tank? But I am not sure if OFF models explosions from this - I have had several leaks now, but the fuel just seems to leak away until the engine stops.

Archie reared his li'l head on me tonight

We bounced a flight of Spads (4 on 5) retuning from a CAP

Coming down on their 6, they split, 3 left & 2 right

The flight had ended up on my left during the turn and dive

They took the 3 on the left and I went for the pair on the right

Set up for a crossing shot

Let the leader pass & lined up his m8

 Blast it all as I botched the shot completely

Whipped up & right into a wingover, hot after him

Lost him in the middle of the turn but spotted him coming out, 1 O'Clock low

Just as I was kicking rudder ...Bam!!! a red ball off fire

Flames streamed back ...& he just rolled off into a dive

But a split second to comprehend it, easng back on the stick & flashing over

Wow, what immersion!

Archie can rear his :skull: ugly heasd so surprizingly ...for good or bad

btw. We dusted em good too

Got all 5 w/o loss
