What is the A-7_Flir, and which is its usefulness??

 

Forward-Looking Infrared pod. Not all A-7s were modified to carry it. Typically, beginning in the late 1970s, one of the two A-7 squadrons deployed on each carrier would be FLIR-capable.

 

The FLIR pod allows an infrared image to be displayed on the radar scope, which has benefits at night and in other low visibility conditions. In the A-7, it is not a targeting pod.

the ex-us navy a-7 e and 36 of the greek a7 (a7e) used the flir LANA. although it was not very capeable as the LANTRIN , it is a very useful device for night targeting and navigation
