Inspired by Ritter von Tutschek's change to Black because of the loss of a friend,

I have thought about this Deep Burgundy painting. The pilot, Wolfram Ritter von

Mahlow, saw a friend and comrade, who got shot down, some hours later at some

trench batallion. The blood, that had dried already, had a deep red colour, that

Ritter von Mahlow should never forget - he painted his craft like that, and added

a death head, to sign to all opponents: you are entering a fatal encounter!
