Just courious...if I play a mission in the campaign as the secondary gunner, will the plan just follow the route markings to and from the target, or will the AI pilot of my plane take some evasive action if enemy's are encountered.

Also if I am the gunner seat in a fighter or scout plane, will the AI pilot chase an enemy if it is wise to do so...or again, just follow the route markings to and fro.

From my experience, the AI pilot will not be so good in evasive actions, as you could, but he will try to

concentrate on the mission targets.

If you would fly the craft, you could bring it much better in good positions for your AI gunner, who will

shoot quite well!

Hi jack72! Welcome to the show! Good question. I don't have the definitive answer but in my experience at least in QC the AI pilot follows the waypoints. Evidently to complete the assigned mission. What I do is I mix things up a bit by swapping seats during the flight/fight. To go observer seat is key F8, the pilot key is F6. I can stay in the action that way and also enjoy lining up the the observer to get some good shots in. If I might direct you to an account of mine flying this way in QC http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...0&start=540 it is mid-page post #546 in the screeshots sticky. All sims have their limitations. I do hope and believe though that you will get much enjoyment during your OFF BH&H stick time as so many of us do.

Jack,

I fly missions in the observer's seat regularly - I even put together an online mission which allowed four of us to fight from the rear seats of a flight of Brisfits while the AI pilots went for a flight of Albatrosses with a vengeance.

When you drop into the gunner's slot the AI pilot takes over and performs to his allocated experience level - ace, verteran or novice and his behavior appears to be dictated by a combination of this and the mission parameters set e.g. recce; the AI is passive and holds formation with the rest of the flight when attacked, combat patrol; they go for the throat of any airborne opposition. The only thing they can't seem to do is drop bombs - I usually jump back to the driver's seat to take care of that myself.

At least that's how it works in my experience. Perhaps one of the Devs can throw more light on the behavior?

Regards,

Wow! Is this a recent change? I tried gunning long ago and the AI pilot either just went straight and level, and thus we were a sitting duck, or fell out of the sky completely. So ever since I've never switched seats and have just let my AI observer do his job while I do mine.
