World's oldest man, WWI veteran dies

Recommended Posts

World's oldest man, WWI veteran dies - he was the last surviving original member of the Royal Air Force. See the article here...

More importantly to me, he was the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland. I had no idea he was in the RAF, too, until you mentioned it.

I drink again to his shade. I've already done so on my own game's forum, which is about naval things. It's somewhat strange that this 1 guy was the last of both my interests.

Now I'm pretty well drunk. May the Valkyries welcome him home. :drinks_drunk:

I remember my Great Uncle Ernie talking (crying) about going over the top at 3rd Ypres. Just the one time he talked about it.

I wonder if Mr Allingham met King George VI, who also fought at Jutland and was at the founding of the RAF.

An Australian, Sir Arthur Murray Longmore was a pioneer Naval Flyer, one of the first four. He incurred Their Lordship's displeasure and reverted to sea duties, and served on HMS TIGER in the Battle of Jutland.

His biography title "From Sea to Sky" says it all. He had a most remarkable career.

"They shall not grow old,

as we who are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning...

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Lest we forget

Rest In Peace Digger

:salute:
