I had another post war craft model with yellow wings, an American trainer, but can't

remember the name. Could have been the plane at the left; it had rounded wingtips.

Probably a Stearman biplane. Also called PT-17, or, the Great Lakes trainer. Looks much like the PT-6 shown.

No. The designation 'PT' was for Primary Trainer. This was the plane you soloed in. Then off to the Advanced Trainer, the North American AT-6.

That's the Stearman, or PT-17, or Great Lakes Trainer. The latter name from the Great Lakes Naval Air Station where, (I think I'm right about this) the plane was first deployed prior to WWII. (...also, I married the grand-neice of the designer)
