NEED HELP. . .PLEASE!

After running BHAH and other CFS3 related sims (ETO, PTO, MAW) for years without a hitch, starting in mid-July, the sims now close shortly after starting. I receive a message that CFS3 has stopped running and must close. Sometimes I can fly for a short time, but most times, BHAH and the other sims close almost immediately. The run period seems to be prolonged somewhat if I restart the computer, but shortly thereafter the problem recurrs.

 

I run Vista Home Premium.

 

I had not made any changes to the sims or the computer before this took place. No other applications are amiss. Significantly, my "vanilla" CFS3 install runs fine.

 

I have tried EVERYTHING. Uninstalling BHAH and the other sims, reinstalling them, running the CFS3 config, clean booting, cleaning the registry, rolling back video drivers, updating video drivers, checking the CPU fans, rolling back Windows updates, restoring Windows updates, deleting the uisel files and on and on. Most recently, I deleted every bit of CFS3, BHAH, ETO etc. from my computer, then reinstalled from the start. Still no go. Only the stock install operates properly.

 

When I investigated the "details" of the problem, I received this error message:

I've posted elsewhere on this topic. Although I've received suggestions, none work. PLEASE, ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

 

Again, I've run CFS3, BHAH, OFF Phase 2, ETO, PTO, etc. for years without any problems. Suddenly this has occurred.

If you had a file become corrupted, you might never find it the normal way.

 

For example, several months ago, I installed a new game onto my PC (my OS is XP) and it also installed a video app program (with my permission). After this, all of my TK flight games started having problems (white lines, spots, etc), but all other games were okay. I checked what sort of program it was and I found out that it was for Vista users to play the game. As a result, I un-installed the video app, but no change, I then tried a former restore point before I ever installed the game, but still no change. I even tried restoring a Ghost image from several months back and still no good. As a result, I finally fixed the problem with a complete XP re-install and now everything is working fine again. Drastic and painful, but sometimes the only cure if nothing else works.

Google the error codes, and see if it rings any bells.

There was a 'fix' utility, but I wouldn't want to recommend something I haven't tried myself. Google will take you the same place anyway.

Might not be the answer for your problems, but the first thing I would do is stress test your memory. BHaH definitely stresses your memory and I have had a memory module that was working fine suddenly cause problems when I played a memory intensive game.

I really don't think this is a memory problem. Again, everything worked fine until very recently. Nothing was altered. It's a dilemma.

Well a couple of folk mention things which worked for them. No fix as such.

 

Very odd that Vanilla CFS3 runs fine, but everything else fails.

 

It sounds like your add-ons are referring to settings taken from a previous CFS3 installation which is in some way critically different from a vanilla install. I suspect this might be a registry issue, but I'm less clear how to fix it. A registry checker might not find the error because the vanilla CFS3 might be 'correct' if you follow me.

 

Have you tried backing up your addons to a safe place on your directory, then reinstalling a fresh default version of whichever add-on you want to try first using your vanilla CFS3?

 

If a vanilla add-on, installed with a vanilla CFS3 doesn't work, then I don't know what else to try. If it does work, try your backed up version again. Re-installing the add-on might have overwritten the glitch in the registry. Sounds dubious, but this did work for me once, when I had problems with a dysfunctional 'D-Day' version of CFS3. It was heavily modded so I didn't want to lose it. Once the fresh vanilla version worked, I renamed my modded version back to it's original location and it then worked perfectly.

Also, In general, I would recommend that you don't have so many add-ons on your CFS3. I think the problem starts from there. But since the registry may be screwed up now...format.
