Why Won't Fighters Engage?

Made a mission with a Russian Plane is to destroy a Nato AWACs.

 

I have tried Migs 23 & 25/31.

I have tried intercept and evn a CAP Patrol that surrounds the AWACs and it never engages.

 

It only flies up to the AWAC's area then lands in the nearest Airfield.

 

I sent the mission to a mate that makes missions and he removed my plane and added his own AI Plane.

 

Same result.

 

He also started a new mission with just 2 planes the Mig and AWACs.

 

Same result.

 

Any ideas why?
