+quack74 329 Posted October 4, 2009 I'm doing a generic Jasta 12 Albatros DIII to add to the mid war Jasta inventory. I cant find much in the line of skins for the DIII. Looking for the black tail versions with white spinner. Only found two and von Tutschek's all black one.
Southside Bucky 1 Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) Can't help with this one, Quack... Photos of Jasta 12 D.III's are almost nonexistent. Nice rendition of von Tutschek's machine though. Edited October 4, 2009 by Southside Bucky
+sinbad 27 Posted October 6, 2009 These may help. Not photos but all are from the superb work of Mark Miller. IMHO, you can rely on them for accuracy. Keep up the good work.! sinbad
Southside Bucky 1 Posted October 6, 2009 Have a look at Marek Mincbergr's website. He's an artist and modeller who obviously knows his stuff...He provides references for all his aircraft profile art, and he's done a few Jasta 12 D.III's...Very nice they are too! I know you've done a couple of 'em already, but I thought you'd like to see 'em anyway: http://www.mincbergr.net/index.php?page=d-1958-16---jasta-12&plane=00002.00001.00002 http://www.mincbergr.net/index.php?page=un-s---jasta-12-1&plane=00002.00001.00037 http://www.mincbergr.net/index.php?page=d-1960-16---jasta-12&plane=00002.00001.00003 http://www.mincbergr.net/index.php?page=d-2274-16---jasta-12&plane=00002.00001.00016 It seems that Jasta 12 began over-painting the rear fuselage and tails of their Alb D.III's sometime between March and April '17. In my opinion, I think you could legitimately portray the one with the three pointed star, and Hptm. Paul Henning von Osterroht's D.1958/16 both with black tails...But only just: von Osterroht (the commander of Jasta 12 at that time) was killed in a dogfight with 3 Naval Sqn Sopwith Pups on 23rd April. Interesting fact: von Osterroht (7 victories) flew two seaters earlier in the war. One of his observers was Manfred von Richthofen.
Southside Bucky 1 Posted October 6, 2009 Just realised, that to be historically accurate, von Osterroht and von Tutscheck's planes should not be used at the same time...von Tutscheck didn't take over as commander of Jasta 12 till April 28th...Five days after von Osterroht was killed. Never straightforward, is it!
+quack74 329 Posted October 6, 2009 Thanks a bunch guys. I'm just doing the Jasta 12 D.III's first. I found Marek Mincbergr's website the other day. A big help. I'm shocked there're not other photos of DIII's. Well here is all I have for now. 1. von Tutschek's black DIII 2. The three pointed star 3. Ltn. Oskar Muller black and white chevrons 4. Wavy black line on fuselage sides - Although I think the end of the wavy line near the forward fuselage might be a snakes head. Can anyone concure? 5. A generic Jasta 12 DIII skin with white cross fields, black tails, and white spinners.
