This is how I get it to work....

 

When I click on one of Lou's links and it comes up in Google, check out the row of links along the top of the page, just above the scan of the book's 1st page. All the way over at the right end of this line is a DOWNLOAD link. Mouse over this and you get a choice of formats, PDF and something else. I click PDF and the file just saves without further ado.
