Macklroy 2 Posted November 30, 2009 Jasta 4 Pilot: Macklroy 11/29/1917 Report: We were tasked with assisting ground troops along the coastal front lines. Red Dog and I had lifted earlier in the morning to get a good idea of the surrounding area and we were climbing through a cloud bank at 10,000ft as we spotted Axegrinder taking his flight of Dv's off the field. With our top cover available Axe's flight circled only once and headed for our target. Axe's flight encountered sopwith triplanes high just as we were crossing over the front lines. By now I had spotted the enemy tripes and Red Dog and Firecage had now joined our flight turned to attack. Av8er had a computer problem and Axe was left to defend for himself as the tripelanes circled above him. At least a pair of aces were among the tripes it was reported by VonBaur. I turned for the high pair of enemy planes that were chasing an albatross. I pulled into attack the tailing fighter and pulled the trigger......... ........Low on ammo, fuel and cruising at a fairly low altitude on the trip home I spotted a group of no less than six enemy sopwith pups. Dispair set in at first, but a quick glance over my right shoulder and I noticed Kingkat had turned into the attack as well. And to even greater amusement to me was the sight of a third albatross pulling into the attack as Firecage tore into the tailing pup and sent him into a spin. The two lead pups now dove away as the rest of the flight broke up into the engagement. Kingkat pulled onto the tail of one of the sopwith fighters and peppered him on his first pass. Now the distressed pups wignmate pulled up and towards Kings tail. His target fixation on Kingkat made him easy prey for my guns. Down in flames he went just in time for me to snap a couple shots of King finishing off his own tommy fighter*(pictures attactched). With still not all of the pups accounted for we turned back toward the lines. After only a few short seconds we spotted a fight low in front of us. Axegrinder had joined the fight with the pups and was putting one in as we dove in to help. Firecage latched onto the tail of one of the enemy and sent him down. The advantage of altitude helped to take the advantage of manuverability away from our opponents. Another pup turned infront of me and I turned to attack. He caught fire after a few long bursts at close range and spiraled in. Firecage was now pulling in on Axegrinders wing and just behind me Kingkat was forming up. We spotted a chemical convoy along with enemy troops along the roads as we were on our way home and decided to empty our ammo belts on some targets of opportunity. One of the tommy boys got lucky and put a round through Axe's engine he turned for home. The rest of the flight formed up with him and we landed at the nearest friendly aereodrome that we spotted. Signed: Von Makkenhiem ************************* Throught the fight described above Red Dog and Av8er had linked up and others were engaged in other battles at different parts of the map. This is just an AAR of what I saw. I had a frozen screen when i engaged the triplanes so my AAR pics up from the moment I reentered a plane on that same mission. Kingkat 1 Posted November 30, 2009 Small Addendum: After a quick yet decisive skirmish, we were victorious over the Englanders. The Sopwith Pups were no match for our Albatrosses. Victory to the Fatherland. Pilot:Kingkat
Axgrinder 0 Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) My engine did blow up after I landed. But man, what a great mission! I did not expect to tangle with tripes though! I should have known Black Flight might be lurking around since we were flying close to the coast! Edited November 30, 2009 by Axgrinder
