Olham Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Maybe, I posted this before, but it's worth to check with time and patience. Most "Flieger & Luftschiffer" have contributed pictures, and there are more under "Photos & Postkarten". First pic is Jasta 4, April 1917; second shows FA(A) 234 in Lanchy, March 27th, 1918. Enjoy! http://www.buddecke.de/index1.htm Edited February 19, 2010 by Olham Quote
Akmatov Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Good site, thanks. BTB, in the picture of First pic is Jasta 4, the plane in the top left corner (Albatross?); is the pipe looking thing sticking up over the wing the exhaust or is it a periscope so the pilot can see around all the twisted plumbing pipes in his face? (I just tried flying a DFW C V and am still in shock :) ) Quote
Morris Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Dear Olham, At least those great pilots stayed in the best hotels (2nd picture). m Quote
Olham Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Akmatov, the thing on the upper wing is the water fill-in for the radiator. In an Albatros fighter, you don't need a periscope - these craft give you the best allround view you could want. Try them. The exhaust tube is right above the left officer. The DFW is indeed a bit funny with the engine block in front of you (but keeps the nose warm in winter - Lol!) If you want to see the details of two great fighters, check the Albatros build pictures, and also the S.E.5a building (under: Projects) here at this wonderful website: http://thevintageavi...co.nz/node/3794 Edited February 19, 2010 by Olham Quote
Akmatov Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Wow! I have to go buy a Lotto ticket tonight! Quote
Akmatov Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 t he thing on the upper wing is the water fill-in for the radiator. I had never known that. The great pictures at the web site showed that very clearly. In an Albatros fighter, you don't need a periscope - these craft give you the best all round view you could want. Try them I'll give it a try. I've always thought the Albatrosses were some of the most elegant planes ever, would be nice to fly one. Quote
Morris Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 http://thevintageavi...co.nz/node/3794 the is a great website. I would love to be part of something like that. WOW m Quote
Olham Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 Yes, Morris, absolutely ditto. That must be like paradise, when they even get paid for that. Akmatov - when you win, will you travel there, or buy one? Cause, if you travel there, and the winning is big enough: could you take me with you? Quote
