+sinbad 27 Posted April 29, 2010 Well these are now off the shelf and coming along - slowly. Everything takes longer than expected.

+sinbad 27 Posted May 6, 2010 Thanks Quack74 - I was striving for that "look and feel". I'll tune it up and post soon. Like the Gotha pit, it is not intended to be authentic - still derived from the faithful DVII cockpit. Stay tuned.
+sinbad 27 Posted May 14, 2010 I was not satisfied with the early edition. These are somewhat better. There is still more to do tho -
+sinbad 27 Posted May 20, 2010 This is the latest revised version of the Staaken cockpit. Sorry I can't get closer to reality; without a full 3dMax custom cockpit this is about as good as it's going to get. The important instruments (AH, compass, altitude, slip gauge, clock) all are fully functional. I'm nearly ready to kick this puppy out the door. The bomb sight will be there is essentially the same form as for the Gotha.
+quack74 329 Posted May 20, 2010 Is the dash going to stay grey? Was that how it was? Just asking. Either way it looks great!
+sinbad 27 Posted May 21, 2010 (edited) Yes- as far as I can tell the cockpits were finished in aluminum to save weight. I'll tinker some with the texture, but these are combos of hi res and very stretched lo-res, so there are real limits, as I'm certain you appreciate. These planes cost 500,000 dm each and no expense was spared. Many carried captured Lewis guns, rather than the heavier Spandaus. These are the best photos I have.I am unable to model the fascinating AH/Compass at the top of the central console. That sort of thing was really astounding in 1916! The limits of the original model and the B-17 cockpit I used for this mod (with the kind consent of Capun) did not permit me to do that. Guest Posted May 21, 2010 Hey Sinbad, fantastic effort on reworking the internal cockpit of the Staaken. Attached is an image of the FS9/FSX Staaken VC cockpit (as modelled by Stuart Green) . I am not sure if you are going to find it helpful, but attaching it just for reference purposes. Really appreciate the effort you have put into the Staaken . +sinbad 27 Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) Thanks bhaskar2789 Yes I have the FS9 version but DK how to import it to FE. If you know how, please tell me. For the time being I believe I am limited to Photoshop and ini mods on textures mapped for FE. I do like the logos in the wheel hubs tho! The dash platte will be soon revised.] Meanwhile this is now the latest version of what is possible- Edited May 23, 2010 by sinbad
Guest Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) Thanks bhaskar2789 Yes I have the FS9 version but DK how to import it to FE. If you know how, please tell me. For the time being I believe I am limited to Photoshop and ini mods on textures mapped for FE. I do like the logos in the wheel hubs tho! BTW- my copy of the logo is green trim w yellow and white and the black eagle not gret trim w blue. Does anyone know which is correct? Are both right? Meanwhile this is now the latest version of what is possible- With regards to the importing into FE, I don't know either. But wow!, the Staaken cockpit is looking awesome. I read on the A-team skunkworks forum that FS9 Aircraft modelled in FSDS (as is the FS9 Staaken) can be imported into FE (A-team Skunkworks forum, under 3D design, topic: mdl conversion) but all the textures will be lost and the UV mapping will have to be redone. Perhaps the only thing I feel missing from the cockpit are rudder pedals and control wires, but I think one can do without them. Thanks again for the efforts you have put in the Staaken. Edit: Full Description of how to convert mdl to FE: A-team skunkworks site > 3D design > Microsoft model conversion. I am not sure if you have 3Ds max. +sinbad 27 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) Here are the latest. There doesn't seem to be a real advantage to importing from FS9 even if I could. I no longer have 3dMax so it is out of my hands, but I have looked at the files and while there are some things (such as the rudder pedals) that are better there are others which are better in the model we now have. Meanwhile- Edited May 27, 2010 by sinbad

+sinbad 27 Posted July 16, 2010 Delayed by HD probs and restore on my gaming rig. There was a time when I thought these files were trashed, but I have offsite backup. It's a bit slow to restore but all now appears AOK. I'm now about to install a Crucial C300 SSD and W7. If all parts arrive and I don't mess it up I hope to be operational next week. There are quite a few projects that are partially done. If I wasn't retired someone would fire my laggard buns!
