What is АЛМАЗ-23 radar? Another name of RP-22SM?

Have Su-9 got different versions? I know Su-9A and Su-9B,but what is Su-9B,and why Su-9 do not use K-13 but K-55? K-55 have bigger warhead or better in high speed ?

Hi erwin,

To answer your question, the su 9 's avionics and system could only allow it to have k-55 http://en.wikipedia....8AA-1_Alkali%29 as the aircraft is an interceptor role "beam riding concept". i don't know about the radar question but the k-13 was used mainly by mig 21 as it was most suitable for dog-fighting. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Vympel_K-13

k-55 = towards beam riding concept in missile deployment

k-13 = towards heat seeker dog-fighting concept in missile deployment

the role of the aircraft is very important like su9 = interceptor and also mig 21 is a fighter . also the avionics and radar being paired up with the missile is very important due to compatibility.

RP-22 is called Saphir 21. Then there is a Saphir 23 for the MiG-23. Almas-23 i have never heared, but it must be something different.
