Wings Over Vietnam Techniques and Skillz

Recommended Posts

Sorry to start a new thread again but I'm having issues with Shrike, this time.

(I only am using stock aircraft for WOV...)

The manual actually don't really say anything on how to use'em.

So I hope someone can answer this without being bothered too much! ^_^

1)I should just point my aircraft in the general direction of the radar?

2)Only when someone is firing at me? I have no RWR on the A6! How can I do?

3)Only after SAMs are flying?

4)Same thing with the STARM?

Thanks in advance!

Long ago I had the same questions in my mind. I couldn't understand how that missile really worked. It hasn't "tone" but if you select the ground radar you'll see its "interface". When you are 10-11 miles from a radar (it lock only to a radar as I know) if you pay attention to the plane radar it will change into: "INTO RANGE" and you'''ll see a a figure (2 for example) into a small box. NOW it's the time to FIRE it ! You will see its trajectory , going straight towards the radar and hitting it. (don't forget to SELECT the SHRIKE missile when you search tha plane radar and wait for a lock !)

I hope that helps!

What does this have to do with Arms? this is how you lock up an AIM-7 Sparrow.

ARMS (all anti radar missles) in this era go against our basic insticts and desires as simmers to have a lock.

If you are in an aircraft with out a RWR and you fire in the general direction of a radar it will automatically home in and possibly kill it.

The standards fly in an arc which makes them useless against anything with in Shrike range- unless you have the simplified visual targeting and display modes. So if you know there is an air base or other target area with in Standard range just fire

and hope it its something. With Shrikes they will still home in if you shoot in the general area but I wait until a SAM launches and point my noise at an angle for the Shrike loft. In real life ARMS were to stupid to figure out the range of a target as recent as operation Desert Storm. This was the reason they developed the Wild Weasel.

This is the reason I would like to see some proper wild weasels and ElINT in the game.

The EWO in the back who determined what radars were around the plane and their range with audio tones and oscilloscopes.

We wouldn't be concerned with any of that as we don't have the back seat so we could simulate both

by adding a new option to the tactical menu like- nearest radar and have Red Crown or compass call give as range and berrings

and if we are in a WW then we have the targeting mode change to simulate the EWO giving us the target.
